vaccinations & swelling? Has anyone else noticed swelling following rabies vaccinations? I have seen a few posts regarding swelling of the head being a sign of an allergic reaction, but that isn't what I mean. Following 3 days of lethargy, loss of appetite and energy, I found a knot on my yorkie's back where her shot have been given several (5) days earlier. It doesn't seem to hurt her for me to touch it, but I am worried. I took her to the vet and they said to massage it every day and come back it 2 weeks for a follow-up visit. She is acting like herself, but this lump bothers me. Has anyone had a dog with a similar reaction?

The same thing happened to my Desi.. I freaked out thinking it was a tumor so when I called vet in a panic. she told me it was common after a rabies shot and that it should go down in a few days..and it did. I was so relieved.

knot after rabies shot Both of my babies got their rabies vaccinations at the same time. One of them developed the knot you are talking about, the other one- nothing. It didn't seem to be painful, so I just watched it for a couple of days and sure enough, it went away. I had already seen posts concerning this, so I wasn't too worried. (although my inital reaction was "OMG!!! I gotta call the vet!!!" Then I took a few minutes to regain my senses...) Just keep an eye on it, you should begin to see some improvement soon. It was probably about 6 days before the knot was completely gone on my pup.

The same thing happened to Gibson. I freaked out too! I called the vet and they told me that sometimes thats a side effect. Gibsons took about a week and a half to go down.

I wish vets would warn people about this. It's very common. Happened to Hefner. They are supposed to massage the injection after the shot to prevent it but they don't always.

My vet took Sabrina's knot and rolled it between his fingers and then told me to just gently massage it several times a day; it disappeared in a couple of days. Good luck. Poor babies - I don't think they need all these shots every year. Ours last for years, why don't theirs?

Yup! Bailey had a lump where he got his rabies shot as well. It took a week to go down, I was getting worried by that time. I called my vet & he said that's normal.
