I wouldn't use the Balance IT L that they will tell you to use. I'd use the combination of human vitamins and minerals they will give you instead. |
Thank you! :) |
Dog Birthday Cake 1 Attachment(s) A friend of mine gave me this recipe, which is safe for dogs. I made this the other day for my baby's first birthday. She loved it!! The humans had some too. It was pretty good. Dog Peanut Butter Cake 1 Cup Flour 1 Tsp. Baking Soda 1/4 Cup Peanut Butter 1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil 1 Egg 1/3 Cup Honey 1 Cup Shredded Carrots Mix the flour and baking soda together. Add remaining ingredients. Blend well. Pour into 8" round or square baking pan coated with PAM. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Cool completely. Frosting can be made with 1 cup Cottage Cheese and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter pureed in blender or food processor. Frost when cool. If you don't have a cake decorating kit, you can take some peanut butter in a ziploc bag, push it to the corner, seal it and cut the very tip of the corner off. Then you can write your baby's name on the cake. Here's a picture of mine. (I used the ziploc bag, and it was real easy). |
Frozen Tasty Treats This recipe I invented for my dog out of necessity - The vet thought she may have pancreatitis, so after her bouts of diarrhea, the vet suggested she rest her digestive system with white rice and low fat cottage cheese. I fixed short grain white rice in my $14 rice cooker from Target, and mixed it with low fat organic cottage cheese (just in case she was sensitive to chemicals after coming off of i.v.) However, as a working mama, I couldn't mix it fresh everytime! So I made batches up over the weekend and froze it for a few days. She loved it! It was also easier to mix thawed cubes into her regular food as a way to slowly reintroduce her regular food. 1 cup cooked and cooled white rice 1/2 cup low fat organic cottage cheese Mix in bowl, spoon into icecube trays, freeze, and serve. |
Hello Everyone! I just thought that I'd share the recipe my kids and I made for the dogs tonight. Gingerbread Men for Dogs 2 cups whole wheat flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp ground ginger 1/4 cup dark molasses 1/4 water 1 large egg 2 tbsp canola or olive oil Combine dry ingredients, then whisk wet ingredients seperately. Combine the 2. Roll out 1/4 inch thick. Bake at 350 for 12-15 mins until firm. |

Fat can trigger pancreatitis but there is no reason to avoid people food altogether. :) There are certain things they can have and certain things they can't. I will say, just because you find a recipe in this thread doesn't mean it's safe. There are some I would never, ever feed. You can give all dry food. You can give canned or mix the two. You could do homecooked with the help of a nutritionist... Lots and lots of Yorkies reverse sneeze. I have never heard that it can cause collapsed trachea. Mine does it occasionally and I think her trachea is okay. I'm sorry about your Yorkie. :( |

Pet food recipes | ajc.com I leave out the cloves and Ellie eats them without the honey. The banana muffin one, I did use a recipe for but changed so many things. Most recipes with dog healthy ingredients would work. |
Thank you so much. I plan to make the banana muffins this weekend. |

Banana Carrot Muffin Dog Treats Will Make Your Dog Happy I did vary from the recipe quite a bit though. I would NOT use the nutmeg. I used all qhite flour because that's what we have on hand. I replaced the carrot with mashed apple... Because I did change up the recipe, the muffins smelled so good but they were a wet and chewy texture in the middle. I thought they were too wet to leave at room temp., so I froze them and thaw one at a time and put them in the fridge. I'm sure it would be better if you stuck to the original recipe. |
Just wanted to say thank you to all the people who have posted their wonderful recipes. This will give Andromeda a wonderful selection of items to snack on.:) |
WOW THANK ALL OF YOU!!!!! I just cant wait to get cookin for my little one!!! woof!He also thanks you! |
Petdiets.com Has anyone tried any of the recipes on this website and used the BalanceIt supplement? Buster loves the food but doesn't like the grainy texture of the supplement. Any suggestions to make the supplement more invisible in his food? |
Petdiets.com Has anyone tried the recipes from this website? Buster likes the food but hates the grainy supplement you have to mix in. Any suggestions? Do you know of a liquid supplement that dogs like? |

I don't like Balance IT Canine because it contains menadione. I use Balance IT K but this is reserved for dogs with medical issues, so I'm not sure everyone should use it. Balance IT has their own site and they can give you the amount of Balance IT you should use and the amount of human vitamins and minerals you should use, so you would have a choice. However, one of the human supplements they want you to add isn't without problems, so I see it as a no win situation. If you do get a recipe from Balance ITs site, I would not recommend the one with cottage cheese because I thought it made Ellie extrea thirsty (could be wrong though). By the way, petdiets.com is Ellie's nutritionist's website. :) |
Menadione Thanks for your info. I didn't know about menadione. I don't understand why they would use it if it is harmful, even if it is in a tiny concentrate. I was told the Canine K supplement is more grainy than the regular, and Buster doesn't like the texture. They told me to dissolve it in Karo syrup to get rid of that feeling. What is the difference between the two supplements? I made him the recipes with chicken and beef. |

How do you know.... I love all these great sounding recipes for homemade doggy treats etc...but how do you know if you need to suplement calcium, protein etc....or how much to give, etc. I don't want to "overdose" my little one one these things and make her be sick....how do you know? |
