I decided to try the leo's cookies today. OMG Aurora loves them. She is not allowed in the kicthen and she usually minds, but not when I started making these. She was either in the kitchen or in the doorway sniffing the air. I let her try the batter and she was begging for more. once the first batch cooled, my ex boyfriend gave her one. I never seen her eat a treat so fast. She was even sniffing the ground looking for any crumbs and licking the ground. With how she loves these, I can't wait to try other recipes. I went to walmart to get the baby food, I was figuring out how many jars I would need. The lady stocking the selves was like what kind of recipe are you making with baby food? I explain its for my dog, since its best for her esp with all the recalls. She thought it was rather cool. |
maybe someone can help me.. lexi seems to be getting bigger and bigger. . i home cook for her too, but also try to give her some kibble for her teeth, but she just pulls them out of the bowl... i need help... i dont feed her alot, but she getting fatter. i give her chicken , just alittle and mostly veggies... fruits. oatmeal for breakfast... dont know what im doing wrong.. just carrots or cerely for snacks and thats it... could it be she is having too much protein... thats what my b/f says.. she solid though, not fat. like a brick. any advise i would appreciate... i want her to eat some dry kibble for her teeth, because ive tried brushing and using that other stuff you squirt,, sorry forgot the name.. , no deal at all, cant do it to her. shes nuts |
anyone???? marcerella,, where are you cutie pie.. |

hmmm.... ok so let's skip the kibble.. can you give her baby carrots to chew on?? They do the same job! or celery.... frozen chicken broth cubes (layla tends to "chew" those instead of licking them) How big is she?? how much are you feeding? Layla is 5.5 (she is heavier in the summer than the winter... ) so she gets about... 1/4 c. breakfast.. and 1/4 c. dinner. maybe a little less.. and usually gets a snack of cottage cheese and apple sauce in there somewhere... i found out she only needed to eat twice a day ( i was feeding her 3 times) by lettin gher tell me when she was hungry (by leaving kibble out). so make sure she needs to eat and isnt' just getting it because... how much exercise does she get?? I know it is hard in the summer because it is SO hot.. but i try and get her to play hard for at least 30 min a day. and come winter we do hour walks at night... anyways... get back ot me on that stuff.... i'll try and think of other things :) tell your bf the high protien is the BEST thing you can be doing for her.. it giver her the energy she needs... if you were feeding all carbs.. i'd be saying THAT would be what is making her gain weight. |
lexi is now 10 1/2 lbs and still gaining it seems... i give her cerelry and carrots for snacks .. she loves them... i feed her 1/4 cup in the morning before i leave and the same in the evening.. and when i eat, i give her the celery or carots or string beans that she can crunch on.. her chest is huge, like a stocky male... i walk her , we run on the beach, etc. but remember shes home alone all day and sleeps. |

I'm making the "Leo's Cookies" today! I can't wait! I just mixed up the dough, but am waiting for something else to be done in the oven so I can put them in! I can't wait to see how they turn out and how Emma and Milli like them! |
Can you use rice flour with this recipe???? I have a little one that is allergic to wheat. ~Barb~ |

I think it should work with rice flour! You could always add a little more flour if it seemed too wet. The trick is really LEAVING them in the oven until it's cool. I had a hard time being patient, so I had to reheat the oven once because they weren't hard enough! |
Some of these seem good enough for humans to eat. LOL |

I made some more of the leo's cookies while I was at my mom's house. Her yorkies LOVED them. We never seen penelope wag her tag so fast. My mom laughed and said she thought she was going to leave the ground with her tail going so fast. Penelope is a big time mommy's girl and my mom was like wow she is more excited to see you now than she ever is for me. I left a bag of the treats there so that, penelope can have some while I am gone. Since I noticed some of the other recipes had either banana or sweet potatoes, I decided to try replacing the carrot baby food for those. Penelope loved the banana kind. She liked the sweet potatoe as well but not as much as the banana. Leo's cookies are definately worth making!!!!!! |
can someone tell me where leo's recipe is for the treats? i have searched and searched and cannot find it. thanks you very much i am looking to make some treats for sammy. |

A "Birthday Cake" for your dogs My husband and daughter have a side business here in the Cayman Islands, FuzzyFood and they prepare home made pet food several times a week and deliver it to the parents of furry kids either at their offices or at their homes. I decided that a special treat was in order when ever one of the babies had a birthday so I came up with mini doggie cakes. Basically I make a meatloaf recipe minus the tomato sauce as a lot of dogs can not deal with too much tomato and I cook them in mini muffin tins, then I frost the cupcakes with mashed potatoes. These are rich and so they are best used only as a treat and if you have a large dog then just make it in a square pan. People love this as a special treat, I melt carob and will decorate the "cake" with the dog's name and everything. Another favorite that both the cats and the dogs like is "salmon cakes" we take salmon canned in spring water and shred it and mix in whatever grains, we usually use brown rice, and a few oats, add egg to hold it together, chopped spinach, grated carrots and we form them into patties and put them under the broiler until they are lightly brown on both sides and our customers love them to no end. Here's another hint if you are going to make home made dog biscuits. Use your breadmaker through the dough cycle to do all the work for you! Then all you have to do is roll them out super thin, cut and bake for an hour or whatever the recipe calls for, turn the oven off and then let them cool down inside the oven. I do this with several recipes and I cut them out as heart shapes and dip one side in carob. Again this is just as a special treat but the babies love them and mom and dad are happy to give a high quality treat. Hope some of these help |

YorkieDaze Recipe I have not read every single post but I haven't seen YorkieDaze's recipe that she sent to me. I have been feeding this to my little guy for several months now and he loves it. I might have made a few minor changes but this is the recipe. Actually I cut this recipe in half because it does make a TON of food. Here it is: Find a REALLY BIG bowl or pot for mixing these. Cook up 1 cup of brown rice together with 1/2 cup of split peas and 1/2 cup of lentils till crisp tender then drain and rinse in a colander Cook 3 pounds of free range ground veal or free range hamburger . Add to rice mixture. Then in a food processer, coarse grind 3 large fresh heads of broccoli with stems, 6 large fresh carrots and 3 cloves of garlic. Add to mixture. Mix really well and put in pint size freezer zip-loc bags and freeze. I also make meatloaf for him. I can't give you exact measurments because I just guess as I make it but basically go by a regular meatloaf recipe. I use free range ground beef, Quaker Multigrain Oatmeal...it has Oats, Rye, Barley, and Wheat (Poco is not allergic to grains), eggs, powdered milk. grated cheese, grated carrots, couple of cloves of chopped garlic. Mix it all together and form into tiny loaves or meatballs and bake. When cool, put in baggies and freeze. |
I made "Leo's dog biscuits" last night for Charlie. I think he knew I was making something for him because he laid on the kitchen floor with DBF dog Feylan (border collie). The biscuits were cheap and easy to make. And I like knowing what is in what I'm feeding him. Great recipe! Thanks for sharing. Does anyone know of a good doggie cookbook? (I'll check the thread again.) |
