What a great thread...somehow I missed it. Another recipe to add...I give Zoe dry during the day and homecook at night so I don't really measure the portions (and I know there's a huge debate about portioningin) or add supplements olive oil ground beef, chicken, or turkey or turkey breast peeled carbs (brown rice or alternate with pasta) veggies (brocolli, green beans, carrots, peas, spinach, or whatever I have on hand) + add 1 tomato flavor with rosemary or other herbs salt I keep it semi stewy although their face gets really yucky with wet foods so I keep it on the runny but not so soupy side |

The funny thing is, they taste so good to me (and look good) but I have to be sure to tell my husband it's Zoe's food in the tupperware and not ours lol. |
Homemade Yorkie Recipes Tricksie loves food, just not dog food. She is on dry dog food. I have been putting a teaspoon of baby food, (carrots, sweet potatoes, peas and green beans, have no additives, just water)- in the dry food. What about adding scrambeled eggs? I do give her a tiny bite of banana. She is so healthy and happy but I want her to stay healthy. Her poop is still solid. : |
super vitachew from petmeds i just started my 6 lb yorkie on these vitamins from petmeds . it is super vitachew. is it ok to give him 1 whole one , broken in half once a day , cause it says 1 vitamin up to 20 lbs, does that mean a 5 or 6 lb yorkie can take the same amount as a 20 lb yorkie. i also give him missing link in his food . is it too much vitamins for him to take? he loves the super vitachews, all i do is cut it in half and he chews them right up. thanks for your help , all you people on this website are super great elle57 |

hi, i am reading that you give your yorkie a 1/4 of his vitamin a day, super vitachews, i was wondering how big he is , cause i read on the bottle that up to 20 lbs, to give a whole pill. my sammy is 6.5 lbs and i give him 1 pill a day. do you think it is harmful to him and do you think i should cut it down to half? by the way i made your recipe tonight and added all different flavors by dividing up the portions. i had him taste each one and he loved the flavors. thanks for your help elle |

Doggie Tuna-Mac! 1 C. Whole Wheat pasta (uncooked, organic if possible) 1/4 C. Grated Carrots or Peas 1 T. Butter 1/2 T. all-purpose flour 1 can tuna 1/2 C. shredded cheddar cheese 3/4 C. skim milk 1 tsp Healthy Powder (I just added this to the recipe) 500 iu Vitamin E Cook pasta according to package directions. (If you use anything larger than small shells, chop it up into smaller pieces so it's easier for them to eat.) Melt butter in small saucepan. Add milk and flour, and cook over medium-low heat until sauce is thickened and bubbly. Stir in cheddar cheese until all is melted together. Remove from heat or it will stick to the bottom of the pan. Drain tuna, put in medium bowl. Add veggies and pasta. Stir in supplements until well distributed. Pour cheese sauce over entire mixture and toss. You can top with a little extra cheese or veggies, if you like. Makes about 2 cups of food-about 4-6 yorkie meals. I made this and froze half for later. Emma and Milli LOVED it! |
Peanut Butter Pupsicles On hot days everydoggie loves a cool treat: May have been posted but I saw it today as a Myspace Bulletine.. 1 ripe banana 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup oatmeal Mash bananas and peanut butter, stir in oatmeal. Chill 1 hour. Make into appropriate sized snacks for your pup. Place in container, store in refrigerator (about 3 days) or freezer (probably 7, but they never last that long around here...). Note: The original recipe called for wheat germ, but we use oatmeal. We also use natural/no-sugar-added peanut butter. We use a dogbone shaped cookie cutter to shape the pupsicles! Bone apetit!! |
Yuppy Puppy Tofu Dinner 1 1/2 cups whole wheat pasta, cooked 1 1/2 cups firm tofu, diced small 1 T. Olive Oil 1/4 cup grated fresh zucchini 5 grated baby carrots (the bigger ones) 1 1/2 T. Healthy Powder 1/2 tsp soy sauce Parmesan or Cheddar cheese, to top If pasta is a larger shape, cut up until in a manageable size for your yorkie to eat. Mix all ingredients together in medium bowl. Sprinkle with a little cheese and serve. Makes 3-4 cups. Plus, I added 150 IU Vitamin E and 1 tsp. bone meal for extra supplements. I made this tonight, and Emma & Milli love it! |

I have an idea. 1.Get some dry food(1 bowl). 2.Get carrots(1/2 will be enough),peas(about 20 peas if they are frozen leave then to get normal temperature) ,some fruit or vegtables. 3.Do about 40ml of water to the dry food (A little and leave it till step 5) 4.Shried(spelling?)the carrots and add then to the dry food 5.Leave the carrots for a few minutes in the water for taste. 6.Wait till the dry food drank the water. 7.Add peas 8.If you have any other vegtables put them into the bowl 9.Mix everything. 10.TADA! You have a delicious and healthy meal for you pup As a dessert you can give your dog 1 or 2 long peas. Hope you like the recipe! |
I have a better version then the other recipe (with measurements) Serves about 2-3 yorkies. Mine serves 1 chihuahua, 1 yorkie pup and one 7kg dog 1.Get some dry food(90g). 2.Get 1 carrots,peas(15g) ,some fruit or vegtables.(somtimes I add 2g of chocolate for the taste) 3.Do about 90ml of water to the dry food (A little and leave it till step 5) 4.Shried(spelling?)the carrots and add then to the dry food 5.Leave the carrots for a few minutes in the water for taste. 6.Wait till the dry food drank the water(if you do not want to wait remove the water about 2 mins after) 7.Add peas(i did rice with peas because I did not have peas) 8.If you have any other vegtables put them into the bowl 9.Mix everything. 10.TADA! You have a delicious and healthy meal for you pup |

If anyone is thinking about trying this recipe-DON'T use the chocolate, for any reason! It's not worth the risk! |
Quote:
Agreed! Large amounts of chocolate can potentially kill your dog. YorkieSophie, instead of using chocolate, I would recommend that you substitute it with carob. It's a much healthier chocolate alternative for dogs. |
For those recipes with baby food, is Gerber an okay brand? :) We only have very few brands of baby food here in the Philippines. Thanks. |
ooooh!!!!! no chocolate at all!!!!!!!!!!! please please please, no no no |

Before you do anything, I'd talk this over with your vet, if there is a medical reason you need to go low protein. |

how to prevent food from spoiling?? Hello Everyone, I have been reading the posts on home cooked recipes for our ever so precious yorkies. I currently have a male yorkie who is 4 months as of today. Currently he is eating Canidae and he likes it a lot, hes been on it for about 1 month now. But I notice that every now and again he scratches in the same spot and I'm sure it is not fleas because we put advantage on him just in case if he gets fleas and he hasnt been outside yet because he is still getting the rest of his shots. I would like to start giving my yorkie skipper home cooked food but my only problem is during the day when I go to work can I just leave the food out or will it spoil? How would I do this if I work during the day and during the day he is in his playpen until I get home but it can get hot where I live at times. Even though skipper has a fan to keep him cool what about the food since it is cooked food and the temperature may get a little hot and he is still a puppy so he needs to eat 3 times a day? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent the food from spoiling? |
