It's a Boy!!!! (help) Hello all, Well, early this morning Maddie had her pup! That's right, just one. My vet told me that he only felt one and he was right on the money. I do have a question for those of you who have had litters because I am a little concerned. Maddie is not really eating or drinking as she is very concerned for her pup. I know she's just being a good mom, but it's worrying me. Also, she will hardly get up to go to the bathroom. Finally late this afternoon I took the pup out of their "house" so she would go and she finally did. It was bright orange so I'm pretty sure she hadn't gone all day. Is this normal? Especially for first time moms? I don't want her to dry up her milk by not drinking or eating enough. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jackie

By the way, I will be posting pics soon. I don't want to agitate Maddie too much by hanging over her with a camera. J

Try putting a piddle pad right outside the whelping box, that is if you haven't already, she's just being a good mom and reluctant to leave her baby. You may have to take her outside. Try this recipe, it'll help with milk production and strength. I'm sure you're planning to take her to the vets for a shot of Oxcytocin. Post Whelping Pudding 16 oz. water 1 pkg. Knox Gelatin (micro. to disolve) 15 oz. can evap. milk 2 tabls. vanilla yogurt 2 egg yolks 2 tabls. white corn syrup mix all ingred. in bowl let set in fridge until thickens. Spoon out as needed. Mary

for the 1st few days I added some extra special treats to her food bowl, like cut up chicken, scrambled eggs, or yogurt. I just gave a few bites which she lapped up & it stimulated her appetite for her reg. food.

Thank you all for your advice (and good wishes)...she seems to be settling down some...we're going to the vet tomorrow (tail docking and dew claw removal time) so maybe he can help assuage my worries.

| I start out, right after whelping. Goats Milk with equal amount of filtered/bottled water 1 egg yolk and 1 Tablespoon of Karo Syrup. The next morning I start with the whelping pudding and her regular meal. Next meal is Regular meal and cottage cheese. I usually give my moms as much as they want to eat.

make sure you give her nutrical.. My princess did the same thing, she didn't want to drink water and I gave her pedialyte LOL..yeah... crazy but that was my only option at that time and I was really concern about milk and pups.. I don't know if other people use it or not but for me it worked.. she has a lot of milk
