| After a bath I always like to brush my dog's teeth. I bath at least once a week. If their breath smells I will brush them too. |

| I don't brush their teeth. I just use Petzlife for teeth Gel a couple of nights a week. It seems to do the trick. |

| I have never brushed Hunters teeth before but I have been thinking that I probably should. What should I use? Do you think it will be difficult to get him use to it now that he is almost 1? Or better late then never? Also I read some of you bath once a week, I only bath him about every two weeks and in the cold months I don't because I'm affraid he will get sick. Should I be bathing him more often or is that a personal choice type thing? WHat do you use to wash? I just bought this new shampoo and I really like, it is called Fresh something or other...With Alo and oatmeal. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | It's never too late to start the brushing. I started forcing Lex to brush his teeth about two months now after he had his cleaning at the vets. I brush their teeth when I bathe them. I like the little finger tip brush. Makes it easy to do. The bath frequency should depend you and your dog. I bathe once a week because I hate stinky dogs. Your dog won't get sick if you dry them well. I usually bathe them once a week or maybe twice if they need it. It depends if they have gotten into any thing and how their coats are looking.

| Petsmart sells enzymatic toothpaste which means it will dissolve the tartar even if you don't actually brush. All you have to do is get some in their mouth and it's flavored with meat flavor so they like it. So if you can't actually get your dog to open it's mouth for you, you can at least get them to lick the toothpaste off the brush. |

| I brush their teeth every other day, (with doggie toothpaste), and use Petzlife oral gel daily. Their teeth are sparkling white and no bad breath.

| Oh, I made a big discovery today. Evidently the liverwurst thing has worked so well that now both my pets, my Yorkie girl and my kitty are crazy about the Petzlife! I noticed as soon as my cat gets to the Petzlife gel in the middle of the liverwurst ball, she goes nuts and scarfs it right out of my hand. Then I went upstairs with the smell of liverwurst on my fingers and squirted some more Petzlife gel on my fingers and held it out to my Yorkie girl, and she licked my fingers clean! So I gave her some more gel, and she licked that off too! Wow! I never thought I'd see the day! |

| I put the enzyme doggie toothpaste on a human toothbrush and just give it to them. They think it's a treat and will gnaw on it and brush their own teeth. Ok... so sue me! I know I'm lazy!!!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I brush Eddie's teeth every day with Petrodex Enzymatic poultry flavor. I'm not sure it's the best, but he won't tolerate anything else. My vet actually told me that it's not worth it. At worst, they lose their teeth as adults, but they can still eat their food fine. Jack is a good example. He has very few teeth but he eats like a little pig. But Eddie's my boy. I want him to keep his teeth if possible.

| I have to say that I was sceptical about this stuff, but I've been brushing her teeth daily with this because she needed her teeth cleaned soon. Someone wrote here that this would get rid of the plaque and no teeth cleaning would be needed. It's only been three weeks and all plaque is GONE and her teeth or extremely white. I'm going to do this daily for another couple of weeks. Then I'll start doing it only every other day or every three days. This stuff is AMAZING. I'm thankful I'll never have to put her under just to have her teeth cleaned (especially dangerous for yorkies as you know). Last edited by thoap; 03-14-2007 at 11:48 PM. |
