| I always do it by myself. When I first got my puppy at 8 weeks old, I just tried every day trimming almost nothing but let him get used to this exercise. After each nail cutting exercise, he will be given a few pieces of his dog food from my hand such that he thought that he is given a treat. Now, he is over 6 months old and I just need to trim his nails once every 2 weeks. He is ususally quite calm even I accidentally bleed one of his nails. I think it's just a matter of getting him into this routine. |

| Hello And Welcome I Have A Little Boy Called Harvey - He Is 11 Months Old And I Cut His Nails For The First Time About 3 Weeks Ago .... This Is What I Did... I Gave Him A Trim - Which He Objected To A Little Bit. Then Came Bath Time, Again He Doesnt Really Like The Bath Much Either. I Was Dreading Doing His Nails As I Just Knew He Would Kick Up Big Time....... To My Delight He Just Sat On My Knee Wrapped In A Towel And Let Me Do Each Nail - With No Fuss............ I Was Amazed. I Only Took Off The Ends And Will Do Them Every Month Now To Keep Them Down. He Was Such A Good Boy....... He Wont Have None Of The Hair Dryer Though - That Is A Battle I Will Have To Save For Another Day !!!!!!!!!

| Hmm...I wonder how it's going to go teh first time I do Tia's nails. The first 2 vet visits, a vet tech did them for me and showed me how. The best advice she offered was to either have someone else hold her, and if she throws a mini tantrum, to just ignore her and hold onto her firmly. The other idea was to wait until she was sleeping on your lap. I have my 3rd trip to the vet in about 3 weeks. This time I'm going to ask the vet tech if I can clip the nails there so she can help me. From then on I plan to do it myself. I hope. |

| I just started using one of those glass type nail files (not sure what they are called) but if you use them regularly they keep the nails at a nice level and I never need to bring out those nasty old clippers. All 3 of my dogs don't mind getting their nails filed! |

| I always have hubby hold Siu Pao. It works best when he lie on his back. I find that he is easier to control that way.

| I actually found the file at the dollar store but the pet stores do sell nail files for dogs. I just find that the glass type works better for me. |

| I'm afraid to do Izzie's nails...I think that it has something to do with a bad childhood experience of clipping my bunny's nails...(we had a bleeder...) Izzie has been to the vet twice and they have clipped her nails both times. She didn't really need a trim the 2nd time, but we're working on getting her used to it. (she's almost 12 weeks old) I think that it's just *really* important to not take off too much at one time...

| After a couple of bad experiences with me cutting her nails, I got one of those tough nail files from the place where I get my nails done. I use that to file Katy's nails. |
