				   | Diet For Adult Dogs Amounts given are adequate for one day?s feeding of a 20-35 pound dog (depending on age & activity level). Adjust amounts proportionally for your dog?s weight. Starches may be decreased or omitted in case of digestive problems or for weight loss. CHOOSE ONE PROTEIN SOURCE: Animal Proteins: (meat amounts given in raw weight) * 1/3 pound boneless chicken breast or thigh, chopped, ground, or minced * 3 large hard-boiled eggs * 1/3 pound lean beef * Optional: once a week, substitute 4 oz organic liver for 1/2 of any meat source Vegetarian Proteins: * 1 cup cottage cheese * 1/2 cup tofu, firm * 1 cup soybeans, cooked * 1 cup lentils, cooked CHOOSE ONE STARCH SOURCE: With Animal Proteins: * 2 cups cooked macaroni * 3 cups cooked potato, with skin, chopped or mashed * 2 cups cooked rice * 2 cups rolled oats, quick, cooked With Vegetarian Proteins: * 2 cups cooked brown rice * 2 cups cooked potato, with skin, chopped or mashed * 2 cups cooked macaroni * 1 cup cooked rice * 1 cup plus cooked black-eyed peas * 2-1/2 cups rolled oats, quick, cooked (1-1/4 cup raw) * 1-1/2 cups cooked brown rice plus 1 cup cooked kidney beans SUPPLEMENTS: * pur?ed veggie mix (up to 1 cup) * 1 Tbsp olive oil, or 1/2 Tbsp olive and 1/2 Tbsp flaxseed oil * 400 mg calcium (elemental, as calcium citrate or carbonate) * or 1200 mg (approximately 1-1/2 tsp) bone meal powder (human grade) * 1/4 tsp salt substitute (potassium chloride) ? give 3 or 4 times a week * 1 multiple vitamin-mineral supplement (human quality) * 1 probiotic/digestive enzyme supplement Vegetarian dogs should get Vitamin B12, carnitine (250 mg) and taurine (250 mg) once a week. Vegetarian dogs of breeds prone to developing dilated cardiomyopathy should get supplemental Carnitine (50-100 mg) daily. I found this on a site that talks about the very things addressed in your article. They gave this basic recipe if you want to give it a try & do your dogs food yourself. That article is true in what it talks about. I found this out a year ago when I was researching our own food supply for my sons homework.

				   | Both of my dogs are on Nutro Ultra. They love it. My other dog, a German Spitz, used to lick his paws all of the time it seemed. Since changing dog foods to Nutro Ultra, he does not do that anymore. He was on Pedigree. That is what he came to us on and I did not know to change it. We got the new Yorkie about 2 months ago and started really looking onto foods since the Yorkie was starting to want the Pedigree, too. He was on Science Diet. I could not get him to eat the Science Diet once he tasted the Pedigree. That's when I decided to find a food that both dogs enjoyed. I found out about Nutro Ultra. They have both been eating it for about 7 weeks. Their coats are very shiny and silky. They love the food. My Spitz no longer licks his feet or scratches his ears - which the vet can also be a sign that the food it bothering him. Definitely - do not be fooled by marketing - I was.......Thanks KIM |

				   | Thank your for posting that information. I knew some but learned lots more. People have no idea what they are buying. Their putting their trust in the manufactuers. I saw a man buying a 20lbs bag of Beneficial. The bag is beautiful buy what's inside is scary. I didn't have the nerve to say anything! Poor dog.Carol & Buddy |

You be the judge as to if it's good or not.......... Educate yourself on what byproducts really are. Bring your Hill's Science Diet lamb meal and rice bag with you to the computer and take the time to research the ingridients. A good way to start is reading the first post on here and then taking it upon yourself to do the rest and ultimately make a decision. Opinions are like rectums and everyone has one.... My advice is above. I have done extensive research myself and have made a decision based on that..........not what others have to say or opiniate. As to my opinion.......based on research, I would never feed mine anything with byproducts. Good luck Also, if you really are interested in doing research........you can start by watching this video..........then continue http://healthypetnet.com/Healthypetn...aspx?realname=

				   | I saw that you guys were talking about dogs licking their paws. My yorkie poo Bentley does this with only one of his paws.. like licks it and chews it a bit (nothing obsessive) and he's on Canidae.. does that have something to do w/his food? I've never seen any sores or anything on his paws. |

				   | i want to know this myself. i did not research the article but sometimes you find stuff like this from other manufactors just to make you not puchase their food. ugggg what next? i think i just might feed them human food like my parents did and still do with their dogs. they have always ate table food and have always lived a long healthy life. can you believe my parents have never, never, never bought dog food?
