I know that it can get dogs very sick if not caught in time. Thankfully shena hasnt had any hair loss or anything major like that; we just noticed her scratching at her ears a lot and little scabs there... that's why we took her in right away and they did a scrape and found those lovely little creatures. Now she doesnt scratch at all, and scabs are all gone. The medicine she is on (ivertmicin) is what I think is helping. The shampoo is just an antibiotic shampoo to help so she doesnt get a skin infection. And she was on antibiotics orally for 10 days. Yep he follows the directions pretty good. Its funny to see a big guy holding a 5 lb. puppy! ha ha How did you friend get sick??? I thought they just made you itchy?? I called my daughter's pediatrician and my family doctor and they both didnt seem too concerned except for washing bedding if the dog slept with us which she doesnt she uses her crate.

It was to long ago to remember what her symptoms were but I do know that her dog was sleeping next to her in her bad and that is probably how she got them. Her doctor was the one that solved the problem with her and the dog not her vet.

Yep we got her from a breeder. I called him and he said none of his other dogs have this. Of course he is going to say this, because we signed a contract that he would pay up to the cost of the price we paid for the puppy in vet bills if something was wrong with her! I do have another dog, a (yorkie-poo) who had been playing all the time with the puppy for 4 weeks before I found out she had them!!! He is on meds also as a precautionary use the vet said. I took him to the vet the same day that I found out SHena had them! He's okay though thank god!

| Wow, your poor family I'm sure that Shena will be just fine. Have you asked your vet about Revolution? It's a flea and tick preventative that also treats and prevents Sarcoptic mange (and ear mites and heartworm too!) I wish you the quickest two weeks ever!

Yep I am definitely going to give the dogs the preventative medicine. The vet said it would be too much to give it to Shena now while she is still on the ivertmicin. hmmmm... I am still trying to figure out this picture thing

Most of you probably won't believe this but a friend of mine agreed to take a Jack Russell sight unseen from a so called friend. When the dog was brought to her it had mange. The only thing she did was change what the dog was eating, and the mange went away. She hasn't had any further problems with mange.

Maybe it was a different kind of mange. I know the kind Shena has is sarcoptic and contagious to dogs/humans. The other kind demo something isnt contagious and you deal with it more often because it can flare up at anytime, and there is even another one!!! Crazy MITES!
