| How much dry food is correct..free feed? I have read that pupppies should be allowed to free feed (avialbale dry food all times). I would like to hear comments from you guys about that. Is there a chance the little guy would eat too much? Or.. should you measure out the dry food and not leave extra available?

YT Addict | When Alex was a puppy I let him free feed. I let him free feed till about 3 weeks ago. When the vet told me he need to get 1/4 cup daily and this is split between 2 meals. He is four # and is a very picky eater...I can't remember how much he ate when he was a baby...

| I wasn't sure how to answer the poll because I allow my 1 yr old yorkie to eat whenever he wants, but I like to measure it to make sure that he's eating enough throughout the day since he was such a picky eater when he was younger. I think he knows how much he's supposed to eat though b/c he always eats about a cup(which is right for his size). |

| From what I know, the answer really depends on how much your puppy weighs and how old he is. In one of the books I have about Yorkies, the author suggests that young yorkies should be fed all the time (free fed) until they are about four months. After four months, the puppies should be fed two meals a day. |

| My Yorkie just turned three and she eats when she wants too. She's 8 pounds and very very active (I swear I don't know where she gets all that energy). She's on tartar control food (those big squares) and I only need fill her bowl half way once a day (not a big bowl). She'll eat a little bit with me at breakfast and then she'll eat again at supper time. But she also gets a Greenie once a day. |

| I free feed too,I always have although we DID think about a shcedule for Jess when we got her.She was at 2lbs at 8 weeks old so we thought that maybe she didnt need to have food out all the time, but in the end we starting free feeding her too because it works best for mine.Right now Lady is 18months old and weighs 2lbs and Jess is 1 year old and weighs 7lbs,they arent over weight so I dont feel the need to take their food away |

| Sophie is a fussy eater, so we're always concerned about her getting enough nutrition. Around 10:00 am she usually eats a good portion of boiled chicken, then in the afternoon a snack if she feels like it (for example, a hard-boiled egg yolk, she won't eat the white), and then around 7:00 pm she gets wet food but takes all evening to eat it. She's 16 months old now and weighs about 5.5 lbs, and we'd like to keep her weight there so we leave dry food out for her all day, just in case. Last night she hardly ate any of her wet food, but early this morning she was hungry and ate a pretty good portion of dry food. So far this works for her, and the vet told us it was OK, as long as she's eating. |
