My little pup is biting his own tail and wimpering and he can't leave it alone. It seems like he may be in pain but maybe he just wants to get rid of his little nub of a tail..haha. Is this fleas or could it be something else? It seems to be pretty localized to the tail.

Check under the tail to make sure there is no feces dried on his little rearend. He could also have full anal glands bothering him. Have his BMs been normal? Any problem/straining? If so, might need a teaspoon of pumpkin to loosen things up a little.

When mine did this, it was the first thing I mentioned. It was a nasty little mess glommed onto the hair under the tail. Every once in a while they do something like this to remind us they are a dog, afterall.

Good BM's and no dry feces. Poor guy. I don't know how to help him, but he's going to chew something off if I can't figure it out.

May want to take him to the vet if its that bad. Something must be wrong.

I agree, take him to the vet just to be sure he doesn't have something unseen by the human eye bothering him. Hope the little guy feels better.

same thing, i called my breeder told him about it and because she had her tail docked i though maybe its just healing, and so he said to mix in baby oil and alcohol 50%50% and take a cotton ball or a qtip and mix it and then apply it to your babies tail, mine worked she doesnt do it that much maybe once in like a day, so try it do it two times a day

Wow, everyone has had great suggestions of things to check for, so I don't have much to add. My first thought was anal glands. Is he scooting his butt on the ground after pooping?

My Coco does this too. And i took her to the vet and found out that it's just irritations from having it docked. Feel around the tail, is it scabbing? Or rough around the end?

What the Vet told me was to soak it in water and gently rub away the scab. It might be that the stiches never came out properly.
