| Thinking about spading Bambi Bambi is almost 6 months and my vet told me that if I'm not planning on mating Bambi that I should spade her b/c it'll be healthier for her. Just wanted to get some opinions if I should do it or not. Also what kind of questions should I ask the vet about the operation and what to expect. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. |

| I think it is best for her overall health to have her spayed. Make sure your vet uses Isoflourine Gas anesthesia as opposed to IV anesthesia and make sure they DO NOT use a barbituate injection. |

| If not breeding I highly recommend spaying. With today's anethesia's this is a very routine operation and can save later problems or possible cancer and pyometra. Good luck.

| Yes - I would definitely get your little girl spayed.... I don't know about you - but I trust my vet(s) totally (They are four in the office I have always gone to. I have my main vet - but like and am totally willing to see the others as well). They have spayed and neutered my pets for more than 20 years. And - I'm sure they have all done these procedures hundreds (or perhaps thousands) of times. So - we just make our appointment and always get "before and after" instructions - and everything always works out just fine. Of course, ask your vet any questions you have. Good Luck! Carol Jean |

| Definitely get her spayed, especially if you don't want unplanned pregnacy! I got Venus spayed yesterday. My vet sent me written instructions home with me. Just to keep her quiet, and some water later in the day, and no food till this morning, and no hopping on furniture for a week. I got really worried about her last night, but then again, I remembed they wanted to keep her overnight "cause you might not want to see them so out of it" that first night. I figured with all the resting she was doing it was pretty normal. I gave her water through dropper thing, and some neutra-cal. Later last night (against vet orders) she wanted some food, so I gave her about 7 pieces of her puppy food. She's done fine. I put her crate on my bed last night, lol. I was even prepared to sleep on the floor with her if necessary Today, she's out of the crate, but in her bed, and doing fine. Still a little groggy, but she's ate some today on her own. I think this is scarier for US than it is them! Just make sure they use the Isoflorane and NO barbituates. Most vets these days don't use barbs anymore anyway. I'd definitely get her spayed if I were you. It sure keeps down diseases later in life. I seen several on here that are having problems with their dog later in life for not having them spayed. |

| I would definitely get her spayed if you don't plan on breeding her. Spaying reduces the risk of mammary cancer if done before the first heat. You probably don't want to have to deal with issues surrounding heat either! My Gracie gets spayed next week, along with micro chipping. She will be 6 1/2 months old.

Today is Thursday, I had her spayed Tuesday. She's like nothing ever happened to her at all! Playful and getting into stuff as usual. Climbs doggie steps in the bedroom as if nothing happend! I had to keep her from jumping off the lazyboy last night, cause they don't want her jumping this first week. Thank God she was in my lap, when I saw she was about to jump down! She's really doing great! I wished I did that well after my hysterectomy! | |

| Also thinking of spaying my puppy This is my first post on this forum. I'd just like to say I have gotten so much information and valuable advice from the generous people on this site. My Melody is 4 months old now and I am going to have to decide whether or not to spay her fairly soon. I think I will but I really think the procedure sounds quite major and my melody is so small I am very worried for her. Even though she's a perfectly healthy baby. She's 2.5lbs now It's like I know what the right thing to do is but just too scared to bring my melody to it. But seeing all these people have done it for their little girls on here kinda makes me feel a little more secure. |
