My Wedgit loves her pig ears...she's 5 1/2 months old....I've heard conflicting info as to whether they are good for her or not.....she dosen't gobble them whole....just gums them until I take them away from her, but wondering how much and how often would be ok....Would love to hear your input.... |

My furkids Donating Member | Pigs ears are all fat! not good for dogs...at all! and if she were to ever get a peice off she could choke..My Parents had a dog that nearly chocked to death on one of these,...I would try something else...someone here had mentioned an everlasting treat...I tried to find some today but, didn't have much luck..I will have to probably buy on line.

| I have also heard that pig ears are not healthy for dogs. If she needs something to keep her interested and she's a chewer try a Kong filled with peanut butter(frozen) or maybe a Greenie toothbrush they will keep her busy and they are much better for her to chew on. Make sure you watch her with the greenies tho. My Gracie has to have them cut in 2 cause she will eat the whole thing in one sitting and to me its way to much at once. The kong keeps Gracie busy for quite awhile!

| Greenies are not good for them either. Dogs have died from eating greenies

| My dogs love the rawhide chips (flat and about 2" square). I give them a new one every day or two and throw the older one away. Neither of my dogs really eat these - but they do get a little soft and soggy -and, yes, they occasionally tear a small piece off, which they probably eat. But, this really doesn't amount to much. So - I feel that I'm getting the benefit of their having something to chew on (which is very good for their teeth and gums) and at the same time - it really isn't something they are eating, so it won't cause a weight problem. *** I've let all my dogs chew on these for the past 15 years - and have never had a problem. They really like them. I think that dogs have an innate need to chew on things. It gives them something to do (remember a dog's life can be very boring) and chewing is something they need to do to maintain healthy teeth and gums. My dogs will chew on these for hours. So - no one's going to take our rawhide chips away from us. We love them. Carol Jean |

| Oscar and Ruthie love their pig ears. Fat or not, that's what they like. I think everyone on here will have differing opinions about what's good or bad for dogs and what they should/shouldn't have. I agree with Carol Jean - they NEED to chew, and if this is what they like, this is what they get. They can just as easily choke on a greenie or any other chew that's out there. My two usually just chew around the edges of the ear and then get bored with it and have to have a new one. As far as how much/how often - that's up to you. I let Oscar and Ruthie chew freely - it's good for their teeth - and it would take WEEKS for them to eat one in its entirety.

| Enjoys socks and great chew toy! Sock tug-of-war helps with some of the biting and for the chewing we have a nice rubber toy. He has played with it for 4 months hasn't broken it yet, and he bites really hard! This toy is cool because you can put a bit of treat inside and the dog chews and chews because he smells the treat. But of course, you would want to put something that doesn't go bad like a small doggie cookie! It's a Kong chew toy. It's supposed to be indestructable. So far true...I found a link, but the toy pictured is different. I found it in the pet store. See the pictures below! 1)Sock tug-of-war 2)tired doggie! 3)Chew toy

| so if you want them to chew on something, give them bully sticks they are 100% digestable... the good thing about it, is that they dont break off pieces of if...they just gnaw on it till its gone... when it get too small, throw it away, they last quite a long time.. i get the 12 inches ones

| Mimi loves pig ears...I give her one once a week while I'm watching her and she goes at it for hours. Once she has ripped it apart I throw it away. I never noticed her breaking pieces of it..she just chews and it gets soggy. She really loves them so I cannot see myself not giving it to her. I've tried bully sticks and they really didn't care for them...neither did I |

| My dog loves pig ears too! That's one of the things that can keep him occupied for a little longer. Flossies is the next favorite, but mostly for throwing around and little chewing, only at the beginning though. Bully sticks are so so and rawhide so so as well, but he'll chew on them once in a while. That's all my choice unfortunately, for some reason he steers clear of Kong toys (I tried 2 different ones filled with peanut butter, Kong paste etc - he likes licking that stuff off spoons but once it's in Kong, he loses interest at all) and anything rubber.

| Ok, I was just going to buy some pig ears, because I hear breeders recommending them for dogs. I didn't know they could choke on them, they look so hard. I thought they were for big dogs, I was scared to try them.

| Millie really likes her pig ears too. It takes her a long time to get thru one. I will throw it away after it gets a certain size. She always has one. This is what keeps her occupied while we are watching tv or if she is in bed with us. I tried Lambs ears and she did ok with those, but she really perfers the pigs ears. Her pig ear is like her security blanket. She will pick it up and lay it next to her on my lap just to lay with it. Sometimes she doesn't even chew it.
