| Belly problems! Hi all! New yorkie owner here. I have a 7 1/2 week baby boy that has had wet bowel movements for the last two days. He's eating and drinking fine, and he's playful. The vet said to wait until Wed. to call back, but I feel bad for him. Any suggestions?? |

Yes. Get a new vet. Any time a baby that young is not 100%, it's best to take them to the vet. Find a local Yorkie breeder or three and ask them which vet they recommend. So many things could be causing the runny stools, so it's best to get it checked out. Good luck with your new baby!!!!!!! Let us know how he's doing, please? | |

| Agree! Get a new vet. When I first brought Timmy home he was going through the same thing. I called my vet and they couldn't take him in that same day. I called another vet and they took me that same day and I wasn't their patient ( I am now). As soon as my fiancee took him in they started him on IV's because he was dehydrating. They gave him prescription food. I think within 30 mins after having the fluids in him he was 80% better. If my mommy instincts wouldn't have kicked in I don't know what would have happened to my baby. |

| If the diarrhea isn't frequent and there is no blood then feed him boiled skinless white meat chicken (easy to digest) and cooked white rice (will firm up the stools). Also Pedialyte (infant electrolyte solution) is good for any causes of diarrhea because it restores the electrolyte balance lost, but only buy the single serving size because it has to be thrown out 48 hours after opening. It's not uncommon for dogs to have loose stools during the adjustment period to a new environment. If the bowel movements are frequent though then it is an emergency situation because these little ones dehydrate so quickly. If the chicken and rice diet doesn't firm up the stools then I would suspect a parasite like worms, giardia, coccidia which will need medication from from a vet to clear. Be sure and take a fresh stool sample should you decide to go to the vets. Last edited by Lacy's Mom; 11-13-2006 at 10:59 AM. |
