| This thread has been very interesting to me. The groomer mine go to includes expressing the anal glands in the groom. I always thought it HAD to be done. I might tell him to stop doing it now. |

| I'm glad I read this too. I thought it had to be done. Hubby does it when he gives Maddie a bath. Last time he did it he said there was alot in there>>> gross!!!!!!!!!! |

| myself when needed. I found that some do need help with this from time to time. I had a Pom and when I failed to express hers regularly they ruptured causing a hole on one side of her anus. It was a mess but of course healed. I express my Westies weekly and my Yorkies about every 2 weeks. I check everyone when I bathe them. It is my understanding that this is caused by poop not being firm enough to press against the glands, which would express them. You have to be careful and not hurt the pup and of course aim away from you as it has a very foul smell.
