May need new vet For those in South Jersey, please help! I called my vet and they will not let Peanut come home the same day as his neutering. I said I would sign a release but they said no way. I do not want him staying over night. Should I find a new vet?

My concern is that even though they have techs that live on site, they are not going to be able to watch him all night like I would. My breeder also said do not let him stay the night and she works at a vets office. I don't know what to do. I want what is best for Peanut and I know sitting in a cage all night will not sit well with him.

| He will be coming off the anesthesia and will be so groggy that he really won't mind. Plus, they are supposed to stay still and I know that would never happen at my house! It really is better for them, and he won't hold a grudge.

My vet's theory is that the dog will rest therefore recover better in surroundings that reduce stress rather than increase it. Unfamiliar sounds, smells, people and animals will not help your dog rest. Your voice, his bed, and the familiarity of everything else at home will. Why any vet would keep a dog overnight after a spay/neuter, without complications, is beyond me. Decide which is more important to you, taking him home, or keeping this vet. If you feel as strongly as I feel, I think you should discuss with your vet that you are considering talking to another doc if he is set on this practice. good luck

Crystal's House you hit it right on the nose! That is way I do not want Peanut to stay overnight for a routine neuter. I know he will do better at home in his own surroundings and I will be able to watch him. My breeder also told me that she does not leave her dog overnight at the vet because of diseases. It you think about it animals stay at the vets because they are sick, there is more of a chance of him picking up something if he is there longer than needed. I have decided to take him to a new vet, I have to stand my ground on what I feel is best for my dog. Thanks for all the replies. Vicki
