Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Too Many Treats? A poll I give my boys lots of treats. Not people food, just lots of rewards for tricks and good behavior. Sometimes, I wonder if I overdo it. When they get bored, they come to me looking for treats. It's almost like begging. I'm just wondering if anyone else feels the same.

| I'm careful because Tila is a little smarty pants and realizes how to get treats so then it becomes even if I say "good girl" for just a little reason she RUUUUNS to the treat jar! ha ha ha and I'm like "uuuuugh ok!" so I never want to give her too many! only for really good behaviour and of course for new tricks, or tricks she's still getting good at! but if I gave my other dog Chloe a treat for every trick she did she'd be like 200 lbs.! ha ha ha! |

| I worry that giving Gracie too many treats will make her not want to eat her regular food, and might make her fat. Also, there is a point in training when we should be transitioning from a food treat to a praise or play treat to reward good behavior. Otherwise, the dog will only follow a command if they can detect that a treat is present. This is what my puppy school teacher said. Just some food for thought.

| My treats only really come out when I'm having a "training session". My two don't get treats when I ask them to sit or wait or down in the course of a normal day. Although Dixie gets doggy chocolate drops just for being Dixie at the moment because she's got PMT, poor baby's very crabby.

| I am not able to vote. Anyways, I am also not sure if I overdo it. My baby sometimes go to the litter box and then looks at me like "Where is my treat?". They sure do know how to get treats! Now I ration his daily food with the treats that I will give him so as not to overfeed. Sometimes I give him his food as treats and I think that is good also. At least I know how much he eats as compared to just feeding and feeding and feeding. |

| I give treats for good behavior, but I've started cutting back. They don't get a treat EVERY time they go potty outside, because they are both potty trained, now, but they get a treat probably 1/4 of the time they go potty outside. They do get a treat when I put them in their crates in the morning and when I leave after lunch. But I definately give them treats in moderation because I don't want them to fill up on treats and not eat their dog food. |

| If Gabby could eat nothing but treats, she would be a happy little....er...um....big girl! She and Gage both get a treat in the morning after going out to potty and they get one before I leave for work. When I get home in the evening, they get a treat for being good all day. After they eat their dinner, they get a treat and they usually get a couple or so before going to bed. Oh, and hubby also gives them treats in the morning. They usually end up with about 3-4 treats each before we leave for work!! They get treats after bathtime for being so good and treats just because I love them So far, the treats have not interferred with them eating their dinner.

Underneath the results of the poll it says: You may not vote on this poll. I think there must be others because there were 130 that had read the thread and only 23 that had voted. Isn't that unusual? | |
