Eating grass and vomiting question... My Chi Pepe likes to chew and eat some grass, almost daily, and sometimes it will cause him to vomit. I have read different things, either that they just simply like eating grass or that they eat grass because their tummy is upset. We don't spray anything on our yard so I know it's now that. On the other hand, I don't think his stomach is upset, his poo is always firm. I feed Natural Balance Venison forumula and they get the usual treats, floosies, bully sticks, pupperoni... Any ideas? Should I be concerned?

I have the same concern, my new Yorkie is 14 weeks old she is precious, but she will eat grass also, she doesnt seem to feel bad, she eats well no problems with her poops, she will usually vomit several hours later but it is only the grass my vet said I shouldnt worry to much his dog does the same, just to watch her for other signs of feeling bad.

All dogs and cats like to eat grass -- They eat it because they like it - not because they are sick. And - when they eat grass - occasionally some pieces of it will stay in their throat and not go down - so they hack and cough and choke a little and sometimes even vomit or spit up a little to get the grass out of their throat. (We would do the same.) Sometimes when my dogs or cats have grass in their throat that seems to be bothering them - I just offer them some water and that takes care of the problem - other times just eating something will cause the piece of grass to go go down....and that solves the problem. So - don't worry about your little pets eating grass - they like it! Mine always especially favor the new, young, especially sweet grass that is growing around trees, etc. AND - my dogs will eat a salad. Their favorite is a Caesar salad. Carol Jean

| I asked my vet 2 weeks ago when Roxy got spayed about the grass eating. Grass is her food of choice. She is constantly eating it when she is outside. He said some dogs will graze like a cow and it will not hurt them. They just like it. But it does make for some pretty stinky poo's. Just make sure there is no nightshade or foxtail grass around.

The only times Gucci eats grass is when she was not feeling well, and eating grass made her vomit. I asked the vet this question and he said its a falicy. So true or not this is when Gucci ate it.

My dogs and cats eat grass on a daily basis --- when they go outside in the summer (when grass is available) -- eating some is just on their list of things to do. I can't remember any of my pets ever even having stomach problems. My cats (more than the dogs) will get the grass stuck in their throats - and will hack and cough or even spit up to get rid of it occasionally. ****** My point is --- "IF" my dogs had an upset stomach - they would still eat grass (just like they always do) -- and if I said that it was because they had an upset stomach.......... I'd be wrong.. Carol Jean
