adult eating puppy food

Just wanted to ask.....Sadie is 2 1/2 yrs old and is eating her fursister's food. (Lillie is 10 wkis old) I know it isn't going to hurt her but is there something in puppy food that an adult doesn't need? Or does she need something that isn't in the puppy food. Sadie has always been a finicky eater so if she eats this I am happy...just wanted to know.

No it won't hurt her, yet puppy food is high in protein and calcium.
The food is generally designed for puppy growth only.
At 2+ she should be on adult food, which is designed to regulate adult growth. Especially their weight.
Puppy food tends to fatten up adults, and fat is not good for our older dogs.

Thank you Gracy! This is what I thought..Sadie has never been a really good eater so when I saw her eating Lillie's food I thought....GREAT! she is eating...I do have her on Innova, I have to mix some chicken and veggies in it to get her to eat....but sometimes she will only eat once a day...I guess I will have to stop free feeding Lillie...I wouldn't want anything to happen to Sadie

Sometimes if a dog is a picky eater, what ever food they eat is fine.
Yet My Vet told me to stay away from chicken. He said it does not have the nutrition as meat or lamb, and is the cheapest food to feed dogs.
Then again if that is all she eats, then one can't make that judgement.
My dogs eat Nutro Natural Dog Food and Puppy Food.
There are times one can't make a choice depending on the size and health of the dog.

Really?? My vet told me that I could add boiled chicken to her food...I don't use alot...As I said, I do feed her Innova kibbles... What I do is add some green beans and because they are wet, it helps the chicken to stick to her kibbles...this way she will eat it...I got her WAY to young and I think this is the reason she is such a picky eater.I tried Nutro and she wouldn't eat it..

Like I said, if she is picky. Then feed her that.
I just mentioned the chicken, because of my Vet.
As far as too young.
I place my pups after 10 weeks.
At that time they are on dry kibble, no wet food at all.
Wet food causes tooth and gum decay.
Dry kibble helps control, tartar and decay.
Plus Lamb for puppies is high in protein.
I get the Wheat Free, NO GAS OR BLOTTING.
Wheat causes all that.

quick question for you....Lillie's bottom teeth have not broken through the skin yet...when do these usually come in..she has her top teeth and I can see her bottom teeth through her gums...I was afraid to give her her kibbles dry..I didn't think she would be able to chew them..yesterday(I bring her back to breeder to get her shots) she was munching down the dry kibbles so I thought....well if she can eat them here she can eat them at home too! And she has been...I was adding water to her dry kibbles to soften them so she wouldn't choke...Is it ok to just let her eat them dry even though she doesn't have bottom teeth yet...I can't remember with Sadie!! Hasn't been that long ago...I guess this is what happens when your pre-menopausal!! lol

I do make a paste with the kibble.
You just add water and let it sit till it is soggy.

she was 10 wks old yesterday. I usually put water and dry kibble in a cup and stick it in the micro...then I mash it with a fork,let it cool and then feed her...Should I stop feeding her the dry kibble?? I hope it's ok that I did!! she has been picking all morning!! YIKES! I hope I didn't do anything to make her sick!

My 3 pups are 10wks tomorrow, DOB 6/19/06
They have had all their teeth at 7 wks.
I would do the soaking method, since not all her teeth are in.
Dry Kibble won't hurt.
But more important I would take her to a VET and ask him about her teeth.
I have bred Yorkies for 6yrs, All my pups have all their teeth no later than 7weeks.
As for the shots, why the Breeder?
I use to give my pups their shots, until I read about the sensitivity of the live viruses. I realized I was taking a chance, no more.
I take all mine to the Vet. Some of those shots are very sensitive to heat.
I know and trust the Vet Clinic in making sure the shots are refrigerated properly.

The Dry Kibble won't hurt her, give a few now and then.
It will help her teething.
I too have learned a lot through my years of breeding.
Most important, I like to hear about healthy animals.
What ever I can do to help someone, I feel good about that.

Hi Brenda, Just to let you know, when Chloe was little - she stayed with her mom until she was 3 and 1/2 months old - she would not eat her Iams very well either unless I diced up boiled chicken and mixed it up good. I slowly put less & less chicken in her mix and within 2 months I think it was, I mixed it no more, THEN when we got Sissy, my vet just told me to remove CHloe from Puppy food and start the adult (mixing half & half for a week or so) Well guess what, back to square one - She also went back to taking the puppy food instead of her own, what a nightmare to sit and watch them eat and not let one into the other's dish (different rooms of course) but all it took was the phone to rings, in a split second, the puppy food was gone, who ate it??? I'll never know but my guess was it was Chloe. Now we have Sissy for almost 2 months now, Sissy is turning out to be a good eater (too good I fear!) and Chloe is back to no chicken in her adult food by me taking less & less away each week, she still hasn't made it back to dry only (which I know is best for her) but at least I have Sissy in the puppy food in the dining room and Chloe in the kitchen in adult food, so I figure I am doing ok, that is a step in the right direction to get back to what you were advised to by Gracie. Sometimes the steps to perfection with taking care of my girls seem slow, but as long as I reach it, I figure it doesn't matter when

Hi Patti! and thank you! I got Sadie when she was 6 weeks old ( I know.....WAY to young) She has ALWAYS been a finicky eater which, I know yorkies can be..I only feed her human grade food. But to get her to eat ANYTHING I HAVE to put some kind of meat in it. I feel chicken is the least fatty and easier to digest. I have tried decreasing the chicken but she has figured this out and won't eat. She is 5 1/2 lbs so she doesn't look malnutritioned...she has a nice coat, bright eyes and is very active...a happy little girl! I don't want Lillie (new puppy) to get hooked on the chicken thing. she will eat her wet kibble (and dry..no more, until all her teeth are in). I know the kibbles are better for them than wet food...especially for their teeth. Sadie WILL NOT touch Lillies food if it is mushed (can't say that I blame her!) So I am not worried so much about Sadie...It's Lillie!!! as soon as she is done with her lunch and I let her out of her pen she runs like the wind to Sadies bowl...Where Sadie eats when she wants there is always food in her dish...I now have to put it up on a living room chair so Lillie can't get to it...(for now anyway!)

Thank you for the info...I am always open to learn everything and anything when it comes to my furbabies!
