The food analysis people have confirmed that Chicken Soup does not use this preservative. They are amending their reviews of the Chicken Soup product to reflect this.

But how do we know which one is safe since they do NOT list ethoxyquin on the bag.

Well, if you bought the "old" formula that does NOT have "ocean fish meal" as the 4th ingredient and instead has "turkey meal" as the 4th ingredient, then it is completely 100% safe. If, on the other hand, you RECENTLY bought Chicken Soup and it has "ocean fish meal" at the 4th ingredient, then there is a slight chance that it has this preservative because there was a 2-3 week period when the supplier of the ocean fish meal was using this as a preservative. However, it has been confirmed that their supplier is no longer using this preservative in the ocean fish meal, so any Chicken Soup you buy from here on out is safe.

I am going to continue to feed my pups the food I just bought. They couldn't have produced THAT many bags of the "bad" formula in the 2-3 week period.

The site Dog Food Reviews has now removed Chicken Soup from it's 3 star list and placed it back on its 4-star and 5-star lists!

Sorry I keep posting here, but I have more information from Diamond as to which bags of food might contain the preservative:

"Product with the "best before" date of January 2007 through March 15, 2007
could contain very low residual levels of ethoxyquin from the ocean fish
meal. This food is safe to be fed to your pets. "Best before" dates prior to
January 2007 or after March 15, 2007 will either not contain ocean fish
meal or will contain naturally preserved ocean fish meal, respectively."

I just went and got a sample of Merricks today. So far he is turning his nose up at it. I can't say that I blame him tho. Not sure if it is the sample or not but it smells kinda stale. I wonder if I can get a sample of Chicken Soup? I need to try 2 more pet supplies places this weekend. Sooo we will see how it goes. Thanks for the update!!!!!

This is such great news, Yippee!! I didn't believe the review in the first place, I have seen many false reviews before on dog food brands but now that it is confirmed that it was indeed false, I feel much better. Especially since I have tried ALOT of different dog food brands and this is the ONLY one they will all eat and love to eat and it really helps their skin and coat!!!!

I know EXACTLY how you feel! I tried MANY foods, too, and they LOVE Chicken Soup. I was going to be SO disappointed if I had to change foods. I'm so glad that I don't!

Michelle & Cindy,

If you can't find a sample bag in your area, I can either buy you a sample bag at my local feed & seed store (I have seen these sample bags there), which is like 1.5lbs and costs about $2 or $3 and ship it to you, or I can mail you a small sample of Chicken Soup to try from the bag I have. Just let me know.

Wow, you gals did an amazing job sniffing out the truth here!!!!

I love Chicken soup!!! My girls have been on it since the day they came home!!!! And I could never get them to eat anything else! lol Its "Chicken Poop" or nothing for them!

I am very impressed with the events I read about in this thread! each post was a link in the chain.... you really got to the bottom of it!! And quickly!!!

They had a recall in their products that contain corn, but Chicken Soup does not contain corn so it was not on the recall list.

Go on line to their company and ask for a sample 1st. After hearing so many dogs that liked it, I went out and bought a bag & my girls wouldn't touch it. The store didn't have a warrantee on it either. So I gave it to my sister for her whippet. He'll eat anything.
