| It says the fish meal is preserved using Ethoxyquin. They go on to say that this preservitive has been banned or heavily regulated in human food because they believe it can cause cancer. It is still rated as being a 3 star dog food. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...ct=907&cat=all Michelle |

| I would be very curious to know WHO rates the food and what critera do they use to rate it? |

| Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Do these dog food ratings distinguish between large and small dogs or active and sedentary dogs? If I believe these ratings, then I'm going to go out and get a 6-star food for my 4-pound Yorkie. But isn't that exactly what the guy who owns the police dog or sled dog or herding dog is buying theirs? I'm just confused. I want to buy my boys the best food possible, but I'm not convinced they need as much meat in their diet as a pit bull.

| I posted a thread but I think it got lost. How much protein should our little ones have? I mean how much is too much? That helps a LOT when searching for good food too. Michelle |

| I didn't find Toto's food listed, but it is "human grade" and is dehydrated at a very low temp and considered a "raw" food. I use the grain-free formula [Force] and add a little minced chicken, fish or an extra veggie ... this allows me to control the amount of protein and add little things that she loves. The link to the site is: www.thehonestkitchen.com .... I like the fact that it's healthy for her and easy for me .... simply add warm tap water and cover for about 20 minutes. BTW .... I took it to our vet before giving it to her and he heartily approved it!!

| For those of you who feed Chicken Soup and were worried about it being moved from 5 stars down to 3 stars because of the supposed "cancer-causing" preservative, I emailed Diamond to get to the bottom of this and this is what they said: We appreciate your business and would like to reassure you that your future purchases will be safe for your pets. We have received a written guarantee from our supplier that the ocean fish meal that we are using in our Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul formulas is preserved only with natural preservatives (a blend of vitamin E and rosemary). No ethoxyquin is being used to preserve this ingredient. Sincerely, Dr. Melissa Brookshire Director of Veterinary Services Diamond Pet Foods Meta, Missouri 573-229-4203 Office 573-229-4655 Fax MBrookshire@diamondpet.com __________________ After I received this response, I immediately emailed the food analysis people and told them that the info on their website in incorrect and needed to be fixed ASAP. I guess we'll wait and see what happens. |

| The site Dog Food Reviews has now removed Chicken Soup from it's 3 star list and placed it back on its 4-star and 5-star lists! |
