What is the primary meat source in the Eukanuba and Royal Canin vet diet? And is there another protein source of a different type? When I was at the store one day having a conversation with a rep from Natural Balance, she indicated the reason they have different formulas available is because 4 of them have single source protein and grain, specifically for dogs who tends to be allergic.

Apparently, there is lesser incidents of allergies to Venison, Duck and Salmon as single, source proteins. It might be worth trying a few different foods before trying the steriods. BTW, these foods are not expensive (probably less than what the vet is charging for the special foods) and if you get them from PetsMart or PetCo you can return the remainder of the bag if they won't eat it or have problems with it. Just another thought.

It's not really that lamb, venison, duck etc. are less allergic, it's because dogs haven't been exposed to them to develop an allergy to them. So you usually start with like you said a single protein source that the dog hasn't been exposed to and if after a time the dog develops an allergy to that protein, you can go on to the next protein he hasn't been exposed to.

The primary meat for her Eukanuba Vet diet is fish (herring, catfish and salmon), and the primary meat for Royal Canine (she's just starting that), is duck. So that's the good protein sources then, right?
