| Baxter doesn't eat well! Hi All, I need some advice on my 12 week old Baxter. He just doesn't like dog food! I have tried brand after brand ( wet and dry ) to entice him to eat. He will eat a few kibbles of Science Diet puppy, but he thinks they are toys and has to play with them first! I can only get him to eat about 4 or 5 kibbles. We had a bad round with Coccidia & Hypoglycemia when he was 8 weeks old and almost died. During that time I wanted to get him to eat anything. I discovered he loved cooked, crumbled hamburger. He will eat that like there is no tomorrow, I don't have a problem with that, but I know it is not all that healthy for him. He seems to be extremely healthy and chubby at the present time, so today, I decided I was only going to give him his dog food. So far he has only eaten a few small bites and that was off my finger. What should I do? I don't want him to starve or get hypoglycemia again, but I have to get him eating the right food! I think I am going to give him some Nutrical before bed and wait to see if he eats in the morning. I could sure use some advice from someone on this issue! How has anyone out there dealt with this problem? Would it be Ok to feed him only cooked meats? ie: chicken, beef, etc? Thanks, Pat |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had the same problem with Cali. She would not eat any of the 10 different dog foods I tried. She also has 3 episodes of hypoglycemia so I had to get her to eat. So now she eats chicken I cook for her and a little bit of cesar's wet food, which I know isn't a good dog food but she eats it. I give her the Missing Link supplement. I had one Yorkie who only ate chicken and he lived to be 13 years old. Good luck I know how frustrating it is.

| Thanks Patti for your reply, well, this morning I fixed his wet food thinking he would eat. No Luck. I am about to break down and fix him some boiled chicken. He just sits about 10 feet away and looks at the food and then walks off! He won't even lick it off my fingers! He is acting fine so I don't think he is sick. Just stubborn! Pat |

| Hi Patcowden.. I remember when Riddick was like that..I was sooooo scared all the time.. I read stories on how our type of dogs will starve themselves to death.. I tried everything.. whenever I'd see my baby shaking I would make him a glucose recipe I got off the net.. 2 tbsp of water to 2 tbsp of granulated sugar.. mix well until all sugar is desolved.. For the food I kept trying brand after brand.. I found Ceser's.. He loved them.. Then I read that they were bad for him.. and I was like "Ahhh Man!!! on my search again.. We then got 2 kittens and I bought them Whiskes stuffed kitten food.. and Riddick started to eat it.. I was like "hey at least he is eating".. When we went to my sisters place I noticed that he was eating her dogs Beniful.. So when I went home I bought a small bag.. He ate it for a while then would turn his nose up at it.. So my sister said she changed her food to Premium One (dry) dog food and I tried it and he loved it.. So we stayed on that.. Again he started turning his nose at it.. I was getting fusterated.. This Spring I found a Meat roll dog food.. It's "expensive" when it only last a week.. I get it specially ordered from Home Hardware.. It's called Roll Over Premium Dog Food.. Well Let me tell you he LOVES it!! I don't know if you have a Home Hardware where you are.. But there is another Meat Log thingy that is all natural sold there in the States.. I forget the name, but someone here had posted it last year.. Hope this helps you.. Hugs Riddicks Mommy |

My furkids Donating Member | I had this same problem with Sadie however I got her wayyyy to young...she was only 6 weeks old when I brought her home from a BREEDER! Anyway all is well with her now. She is 2 1/2 yrs old but, she has always been a finicky eater. Believe me when I tell you I have tried EVERY kind of dog food out there. I do not feed her anything with by products so everything I have tried is natural. I had her on Wellness brand for about a year well, that didn't last. I now have her on Innova. She really seems to like it. I buy lean ground chicken and boil it to get the fat out and then squish it with her kibbles. Most of the time she will gobble it right down. Sometimes she picks at it. Could I ask why you are using SD? I hear that isn't the best food to use. At one point I had to spoon feed her to get her to eat...Funny the things we do for our little furbabies huh? Good Luck!
