Tia is doing great :) Her little brother is gone now. She's eating well. She's off her formula. Just water, hard food and I feed her the ceaser you reccomneded, its the only one I can cut up into cubes for her and it doesn't make her gag :)

Here's an updated picture of the big ole 2 pounder. Your right.......I was going day by day...just happy to make it through a day. It was sooo rocky for awhile. I'm so proud!!!!:D

Joker is darn near 6 months now and I cant beleive how time has flown by.
He weighs 2 lb 6 oz. I look for him to stay defintely under 3 lbs. He really hasnt gained anything in the last few weeks, although his appetite is always good. I need to get him in for neutering, he is already starting to hike his leg. He is about 50 % housetrained, he has regressed some because Ive been so busy with other puppies I havent been able to be as consistent.
Boundless energy! Almost hyper, but if you let him play it out he will gladly lay in your lap for snuggles and ear rubbing.
He is kenneled at night, and most mornings first thing he starts squeeking his play frog and throws it out onto the floor to tell you "get me outta here!" He is a very high stepper, thinks he is a show dog by the way he carries himself. He can be difficult to groom! He starts off ok but quickly tires of it, and throws his paws at you like a boxer and screams bloody murder! He loves car rides.....but Ive been so busy I havent been able to take him out much.
After he is neutered if things dont slow down a bit around here, Ill probably place Joker in a special home. It would be an EXTREMELY difficult decision to make, but it would be made with his best interest in mind. Makes me so sad to even think about it.........but he is so special and I would like to see him in pampered pet enviroment with another dog to play with. SOmeone would really appreciate him, hes full of personality, he is very small, and although he has a cleft lip and palete he is very healthy. He is truly unique like your Tia. But right now Im still in the thinking about it mode.

Heres a quick pic of Joker......NOT GROOMED........I wasnt up for the screaming LOL!
He has his tongue sticking out his cleft most of the time. He is soft coated so his eyes show yellowish in most pictures. As an adult he is going to sport quite a beard if left to grow!! Right now he is begging for a fruit loop from my sons cereal.........Ahhhh it worked he got one!

Oh my good ness I just read up on all these forums, Joker is so cute. My Mom, brother and niece have cleft lips and palates, So I can relate well to this story. God bless you for keeping and caring for Joker i wonder if my brother would be interested in Joker.

Just thought I'd updated my thread and let everyone know that Tia is doing awesome! She still has the loud girgly breathing, but she's full of fire! She is a joy and we love her very much! She's almost 5 months old !

Doesnt seem possible does it? Tia is almost 5 months old! Thats wonderful Breny. Joker has that certain zest for life also! Prances like a Prince always. I bet Tia is cocky too.:)
Any check up yet to see what the vet says?
Joker was neutered a few weeks ago (he is a lil over 6 m now) , so while he was there I had the vet check out his cleft to see what he would say. He asked me if he ever wheezed, or gurgled, or had nasty drainage from his nose. He said it looked really really good (clean, no inflamation, clear lungs) and since he has no problems he recommended just leave it alone. He said he could only fix it by closing the nasal passage all together and I didnt see any reason to do that and neither did he. Especially since it is closing some on its own!! He is so healthy, he will probably outlive me!
Once in a blue moon he will whistle after I feed him a treat (he is strictly dry food most times) but occasionally I give him a piece of meat because he loves it. Not everytime but 1 out of 5 times I would say, a tiny piece gets in the cleft and I know, he whistles Dixie.....lol. I just lift him up look into the area and see object, use a baby bulb syringe and it sucks right out.

Heres a picture of Joker and my daughters lil Hickory, they are great friends. Joker is going thru quite the transition on his color. Your guess is as good as mine.....:) Housetraining is still iffy, but thats my fault.

No I haven't taken her back to the vet since she was there the first few times after she was born. Back then he was talking surgery, before he even had a good look , so I'm holding off.

I too know when she gets something in her cleft cuz she'll sneeze and sneeze. She eats hard food and I still give her the ceasers you suggested. I cut it into chunks and she eats the pieces whole. Its the only one I can do that with so thats the only soft food she gets. Oh, so has a thing for carmel popcorn!!!! she's had a few kernnels :)

I'm thinking unless she has a problem, I won't be taking the surgery route. I have no plans on taking her to the vet as of yet. We gave her her 1st round of vaccines and she's getting her 2nd set this weekend.

When she drinks water you can see it come right out thru her nose. But she's developed a way to drink, so I let her drink from a bowl. She's doing fine. I read that its good for the water to go thru the nose and clean anything up in there out, so i don't worry too much.

Joker still weighs only 2 1/2 lb, Hickory looks smaller but she weighs a full lb. more. She is shorter and wider.

WOW!! I'M a cleft palate baby...never heard of a dog having a cleft!! This thread is so interesting to me. My mom had to feed ME with a syringe because i was unable to suck a bottle. She quit her job just to care for me. I admire you guys for taking care of these little puppies! I appreciate that despite the fact that the puppy is "less than perfect" you still give it all of the love and attention it needs!! Afterall, we have feelings too!!!:thumbs up :bravo: :yorkietal

Bugaboo is 3 1/2 yrs old. I am advocate for a least trying . if you have the time, GO CLEFT PALATE/HAIRLIP FURKIDS!:cheers:

I had physical problems and could not come to YT.
Here is Jedi a Australian Cattle Dog who had a hairlip. I talked the breeder into giving him a chance and helping her. His Sire is a BIS dog.
I also have other breeders that will give me there "special babies" and I will try my best and find them "special homes":hearts6:
