| New pups have always become a total part of my family from the first day I got them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you stop and think about it - we know that the dogs we have are healthy and have had their shots, etc. So - it is far more likely that it would be the new puppy and not our other dogs that might be carrying any disease. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Get your little pup's well-puppy checkup as soon as possible and continue with whatever shots your vet recommends. You shouldn't need to keep your dogs apart. And the more they are together, the faster they will become friends. My last puppy (my Yorkie) came here and within a week had four new friends.... a dog, two cats, and a bird. Carol Jean. |

| We just got our puppy, Lacy (shortened from Countess Alice de Lacy of Yorkshire- a real person!) on Friday, April 21, and we totally love her. Shes adorable and has a great personality. She was a little shy for the first few days and only just started exploring the house and outside a bit. The problem is, she really doesn't seem to be eating, drinking, or going to the bathroom much at all. We took her to the vet's yesterday for her wellness check and she didn't seem pleased with her weight. She didn't say it was a problem, but she hinted that she should be at least two pounds (shes a bit under). Her waistline is also looking a little thin. We use Purina One puppy chow (the same stuff her breeder was giving her almost as soon as she was weaned). It is a very good brand. She eats and drinks sparingly though, sometimes only if we feed her by hand. She only goes to the bowl to eat about twice a day and only eats a few pieces, if that. She only takes a few sips of water, even after mild exercise. I tried to research some possible causes and found that it might be because she is teething right now (is this also the cause for the ears to flop back down during this phase?) and may reject crunchy food because it hurts her gums. Should we just moisten her food with milk or water or something or feed her canned food? |

| Welcome to my world! My baby started out eating well then suddenly stopped! She was still drinking water though. We ended up taking her to the Vet because she had a runny nose and she was diagnosed with an upper respitory illness and started on antibiotics. The vet said she probably wasn't eating because dogs will only eat what they smell and her being stuffed up she couldn't smell. It was 3 days of syringe feeding her chicken baby food mixed with puppy milk supplement (at 5 bucks a bottle at PetSmart ). Last night and today were the first days she really had any appetite for basically the last week. I mixed some canned 100% Libby's pumpkin in with her soft food and she licked every bit up. She also loves those little meat sticks from Gerber they sell in the baby food section. She also loves little tiny bits of american cheese (not too much though). Mmmmm...trying to think of what else. We got some yogurt drops at PetSmart for treats when she potty's and she likes those. Oh yes and I occassionally catch her eating out of her big brothers dish!!! Good Luck with it and keep trying until you find what she likes. |

| Welcome to Yorkietalk and congratulations on your new puppy. It is quite common for puppies to refuse food ,or not eat much after the trauma of leaving Mum and siblings and going to a new home. I had the same problem with my tiny pup,now six months. The best advice I was given was to wet her dry puppy kibble with warm water or broth to bring out the smell. You could also try mixing with cheese, cottage cheese or something like cooked chicken. Purina 1 is a supermarket kibble and contains a lot of fillers and chicken by products. If your pup is only eating a little,it is important that she gets the best nutrition. Look at the ingredients on the packets. They should contain a good amount of protein and have chicken meat as the main ingredient. They eat so little that it is not expensive to buy really good kibble from the petstore or vets-I am still on my first two bags with my puppy. Try brands like Nutro, Royal Canin or do a search here for some other ideas. If you try wet canned food, buy it from the petstore or vet. Nutro do a Lamb and Rice puppy canned. You can also introduce cooked chicken, mince, liver in small amounts.my puppy loves raw chicken necks too. A supplement like nutristat/Nutrical which is often talked about here is good to have if they won't eat-it stops them getting low blood sugar and helps increase their appetite. it took about a month for my puppy's eating to improve. She was thin, but the vet kept assuring me ok! She was and is energetic. God luck.Did your vet have any advice for you? /
