Heart Worm Intercepter How many of you have your puppies on heart worm medicine? With my previous yorkie we were never aware of heart worm preventive medicine and were never told to use it and he never had any problems with his heart, we lost him to cancer. Now my new puppy Bentley has been to the vets to get his shots and they told me to start his heart worm medicine which is called an interceptor and to give it to him once a month. I was just wondering if any of your puppies use heart worm preventive medicine like a interceptor.

It really depends where you live...coastal areas usually have a high risk of heartworm. In florida, for example, it is extimated that at least 70% of dogs do have heartworm (alarming, huh?) So Mojo is on heartworm medication all year long. He takes a beefy heartgard plus every month. Hope it helped!

Pita gets Revolution once a month it's a little tube of stuff you put between her shoulder blades and it also has flea prevention in it but it doesn't work so great on Pita. Heartworms are a huge problem here in Florida and I would never miss a month with Pita.

| Heartworm Treatment I use the heatworms treatment year round. From the time we got lil bear till she was 4 we used heartguard, she would sit and do a happy dance everytime I would give it to her, then all of a sudden when she hit 4 she decided she hated the stuff and left me with 3 more months to go. I broke it in pieces, put it in food anything that would help but she turned her nose at and even spit it out a couple of times. I turns to giving it to her like you would a pill. When I told the vet she suggested Interceptor. We have been using it for a year and lil bear loves it cause it means she gets a piece of cheese. With moose the vet gave me a free sentanl (sp) but moose will be starting interceptor next month.....I am happy with it just make sure you hide it in something like cheese or peanut butter

My gurls have been on interceptor all of their lives. Heartworm is nasty, and I wouldn't want to chance it. It's just a tiny pill that they like...they just take it right out of my hand.
