| Maddie gets spayed tomorrow Well, tomorrow is the day I've been dreading for the last six weeks. Boy oh boy...I wish it was all over already! I'm scared, but feel much better now that Maddie is doing so well. She got so sick a few weeks ago and was put on medication and prescription food. She gained 1/2 pound in 2 weeks...that food did wonders for her...and she's so full of energy and it's so great to see her feeling good! I was so afraid she had liver shunt, but my vet does not think that is what it is. He thinks she may have food allergies which are causing her problems. He did not do a bile acid test...said they are so expensive and we will keep that in the back of our minds, but he said he's seen plenty of liver shunt yorkies and Maddie doesn't look like one and have the more serious symptoms associated with that. They will do bloodwork before the surgery and if hers is off, he will call off the surgery. He also said when I bring her in, to tell the people at the reception area that she is to be the first surgery of the day because she has health issues. That will be good...Maddie won't have to sit there for hours scared and in a strange place. I will be so relieved when this is all over. I've been looking at her sweet little face today and thinking, "Poor little sweetie doesn't know what she's in for tomorrow. Oh...the vet told me I can keep giving her the prescription food. It is canned and I mix it with her lamb and rice hard dog food. Does my heart good to see her eat with such enthusiasm! I haven't had much time to post here the past couple of weeks. My mom was in the hospital with a slipped herniated disk in her lower back. She is home from the hospital now and still has a long ways to go, but doing better each day. Meanwhile, I'm spending a lot of time at her house and she has no computer. I have managed to get on here whenever I could to read posts and keep up...so addictive this place is! Anyone with helpful suggestions on this spaying thing, please let me know. I'm so worried...guess that is normal for yorkie moms. |

| I am dreading getting Gus neutered. One of the reasons I was worried is because he gets so nervous in strange places. He shakes and pants. I never thought to ask for the first surgery of the day. That is a great idea. Thanks. Glad your mom is doing better. I hope she is fully recovered soon.

| Wow, I'm so happy to hear that Maddie is doing so much better - what a relief for you! I hope your mother continues to heal well, give her all our best! As to the spaying - I can sympathize with your nervousness. I'll be a wreck when Tia goes in, but the good news is, it's what is best for their health and Yorkies get spayed every day with no problems at all. Try to relax and make sure your vet calls you with updates...and make sure to keep US updated too!

| I took Maddie in at 8:00 this morn and now I am on pins and needles. They will call me as soon as she is done with the surgery and awake. I can't wait to get her, but it's going to break my heart to see her in pain. She was so excited to go bye bye this morning...poor little sweetie. They will send pain meds home with her and told me to put neosporin on the incision often...that will help with itching and it will heal better. She is supposed to keep quiet for 10 days. My gosh...I will probably have to leave her in her crate most of the time because she can be quite the little spitfire! I guess she won't be sleeping with me because I'm afraid of her jumping off the bed. I will let you all know when I've received the call...saying that she is okay and doing great!!! |
