| how common is the death of 2-3wk old puppy? I am getting a yorkie puppy from a breeder I know and to my knowledge has never had any health issues with eithor parent or any of the previous pups. The puppies are about 2 1/2 wks right now and I was told one of them died over the weekend.I 'm not sure if the puppy was taken to the vet to determine the death or not.I know there are several viruses that might have caused it,I always thought that if the pup was born with problems or if it was just too small it wouldn't make it that long ( 3 wks).I still need to talk to the breeder am I right to be a little hesitant to get a puppy from that litter if they can't give me an answer or is this normal? |

| puppy It is not usual for pups to die at that age..it may be due to Fading Puppy Syndrome. It could have been due to a number of congential problems. If it was a viral illness, it ususally goes through a litter..but without an necropsy, who knows. A vet can due a necropsy and not fidn any cause for death also. Since you will not be getting your pup for quite some time, and by then it will have a health check, I see no reason not to get it if you have good references on the breeder. |

| There's about a bizillion resons the puppy died. It's not unfair of you to inquire why. If it is a illness that runs through the rest of the litter....THEN worry!! Good luck. Suz

| We were going to adopt Chachi's sister and she had health problems. She died while we were waiting for her. Chachi has no health problems. The breeder didnt know why she died but she did have an open fontella that hadnt closed.
