| How much to feed Hi, Miso is over a year old now and I'm curious as to how much I should be feeding him. I give him about a cup of dry food twice a day once for the morning and once for dinner, but to me he seems to be getting a little belly now I have a friend and she thought I was feeding him too much she only feeds her dog once a day. Is a cup a day enough for a dog he is pretty big 17 pounds last time I checked. Oh and also I know on the forums they are saying that a dog will know when hes full and stop and all that but it seems as if Miso can go on eating the dog won't stop its crazy. Any advice? |

I Love Thor Donating Member | My Thor is 11 lbs and he eats a cup of food a day! Half in the morning and half at night. (that is half a cup) At night he gets a little something special like a little bit of chicken, spoonful of alpo just to make it interesting! There is a formula you can do to figure out how much you should feed them...I will try to find it for you |

| My dog is 71/2 lbs. I feed her 80 to 90 piece of Nutro Natual Choice Small Bite in the morning and the same in the evening and a little bit of boiled or microwaved or roasted chicken at noon and one or two small pieces of salad. She loves it. Kim |

| My yorkie is 7 pounds. I also use Nutro small bites. She only gets 1/4 cup in the morning, and 1/4 cup at night.

A cup of food a day is an average amount for a 7-10 pound yorkie. If your yorkie has a big appetite you should try cutting back on the food and offer him healthy snacks ...like carrots, apples or greenies. If your yorkie is 17 pounds he should drink more water to help shed some pounds as well. good luck

| Liberty is 4 1/2 months and I give her 1/4 cup in the morning and she does not eat it all in the evening I let her eat what is left in her bowl and I may add more to her bowl. just depends on if she acts like she wants more. If she eats alot in the evening she will not eat much the next morning. We always have water out for her. She will also go where she wont eat at all and than I have to add chicken broth or cottage cheese to her bowl of food. I personally think that it is all trial and error. you could always ask your vet what he/she thinks. He/She knows your dog and would be able to tell you if you need to put him on a diet or a different food or feed him less. good luck Laura & Liberty |

| Gucci is about 8 lbs. and she eats the nutro small bites also, I give her about 1/2 to 3/4 cups a day this is what the bag says to feed. It's hit or miss sometimes she eats most of it other days she dosen't. At dinner I mix in a little merrick wet food to give her variety.. Just check the bag of food it will tell you how much to feed.... Gina |
