Liberty is 4 1/2 months and I give her 1/4 cup in the morning and she does not eat it all in the evening I let her eat what is left in her bowl and I may add more to her bowl. just depends on if she acts like she wants more. If she eats alot in the evening she will not eat much the next morning. We always have water out for her. She will also go where she wont eat at all and than I have to add chicken broth or cottage cheese to her bowl of food.
I personally think that it is all trial and error. you could always ask your vet what he/she thinks. He/She knows your dog and would be able to tell you if you need to put him on a diet or a different food or feed him less. good luck
