| Some dogs have bad reactions to the lepto. My vet gives it and says there have been cases of it in my area. My dogs didnt have a reaction to it.

| I have never heard of this or that you shouldn't give the rabies shot at the same time with the regular shots. I have no clue why not. My vet has been doing it for years at the same time. |

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | Hi, I left my vet of 11 years because she did not give me the full scoop on Lepto. She, too, said she's "seen a few cases, and besides - the lepto is in the vaccine, nothing to do about it". The vet I have now, offered information to questions I didn't even know to ask. OK, here it is: The smaller breeds are more likely to have severe reactions to Lepto. PLUS the fact that there are several different variants of lepto, which the present vaccine doesn't even cover! So, there's a good chance that (on the rare occasion) that one's pooch might come in contact with it - it's probably not going to be the variant for which our babies were vaccinated! PLUS the fact that your baby would practically have to be standing in a puddle of infested water, drinking it before contracting Lepto. Can you imagine a time that might happen? Oh, and lo and behold the present vet was able to immunize Abbie WITHOUT the Lepto! Yeah, I'm pretty worked up about unnecessary vaccines.

Will not give mine Lepto unless there is a problem in our area.My vet will not use it on Yorkies, and a few other small bred dogs. |

| Thank you for the information, everyone. I talked it over with our vet and he told me what I needed to know, said it could be done either way and left the decision up to me. I think each person has to consider their own circumstances and make their decision from there. Jo had the Lepto shot when he was younger and never had a reaction. We did hold off on the rabies shot so he'll be going for that one in a couple weeks. |
