Hi,
I left my vet of 11 years because she did not give me the full scoop on Lepto. She, too, said she's "seen a few cases, and besides - the lepto is in the vaccine, nothing to do about it". The vet I have now, offered information to questions I didn't even know to ask. OK, here it is:
The smaller breeds are more likely to have severe reactions to Lepto. PLUS the fact that there are several different variants of lepto, which the present vaccine doesn't even cover! So, there's a good chance that (on the rare occasion) that one's pooch might come in contact with it - it's probably not going to be the variant for which our babies were vaccinated! PLUS the fact that your baby would practically have to be standing in a puddle of infested water, drinking it before contracting Lepto. Can you imagine a time that might happen?
Oh, and lo and behold the present vet was able to immunize Abbie WITHOUT the Lepto!
Yeah, I'm pretty worked up about unnecessary vaccines. |
