| Tilly's got allergies Hi all, I can't find where to post an introduction sorry, so I'm writing it here, My names Emma, I live on my own with two dogs Tilly 5yrs (yorkie) and Brodie 8months (cavvie). I am currently redundant but looking for work. I have a Higher National Diploma in Animal Management. Tilly has been poorly since Friday before New Year, swelling up breathing funny and diarrhea - she is now on antihistamine most days and is allergic to: Soy Beef House-mite Dust allergens Storage mite in dried food She is going to be having regular injections once they have been made up to desensitize her but she is loosing weight big time I can feel her ribs and inbetween them without pressing and I can only give her a quater of a tin of food a day to prevent diahorea - its got nothing in that she is allergic to but if I give her more the diarrhea is really bad. She should be on 1/2 to 3/4 of a tin. I wondered if anyone else has come across this in Yorkies - she has been in the vets for four days but they can't find anything else wrong except for the above allergies which were sent away - she is fully vaccinated and up-to-date and wormed every three months. The food i'm giving her at the minute is Hills ID in tins - I was just giving her plain fish and rice for weeks but if I up'd the amount again the diahorea got worse.

| Hello And Welcome To Yt! I am so sorry to here about Tilly's condition, it must be very frustrating. The only advice I have is with her condition I would be careful not to over-vaccinate. There are titers that can tell you where her immunity level is. There are studies that show over-vaccinating can cause more harm than good.

| Why is she wormed every 3 months? Have you tried feeding her boiled chicken & rice? I have a dog with food allergies. His diet is very bland. Canned food can give the runs too. |

| She's wormed every three months as that is the rule over here for worming - yes she's had chicken and rice and fish and rice or seperate and she's still got it only thing she can have is rich tea biscuits and they don't bother her

| Hi Emma - thought I would introduce myself as not a million miles away although I haven't posted here for a while. I have one yorkie called Pip who is two years and just been diagnosed with epilepsy so on medication now and hasn't had a fit for two weeks and one day. I also have a cat and four pet rats. Good luck with finding work. I am currently in the first year of national dipolma in animal management. I am planning on doing a Higher national diploma too but in veterinary nursing |

| You dont have to worm them every three months,I live in Bedfordshire and I dont worm mine at all,Iwould only if I saw it in there poo,and I keep a watchful eye on it,its no wonder the poor little thing is having the runs she doesnt have time to recover from one lot of tablets before more come along. And as we live in a cold country I only use flea stuff when they actually have them and spray the house as well,I just cant agree with vets who want to sell you allthese things, and luckily my vet agrees with me.Yorkies are so small that all these medications going into them cant be good.Sorry for the rant,Gill |
