| new yorkie pup with 1/4" overbite just got my new yorkie pup 11wks with 1/4" overbite. the head is about 3 inches long, jaw is about 1" long from the eyes. I won't be able to take him to see the vet until monday. The breeder said it has been vet checked and the vet didn't indicate a problem with the overbite.. I am wondering if this is a concern. I've heard that overbites correct themselves.. any input will be appreciated, thanx |

| Our Punkin has an underbite. The vet said it was only cosmetic and that it wouldn't cause her any problems in the future. The breeder also told us the same thing. I really hope it's true. I don't know anthing about overbites - sorry. I'm sure someone here does though. |

| bite Is it really an overbite or a scissor bite? Your pup is quite young to determine the final bite. There are slight over and under bites which are only detectable if the mouth is open..then you have a severe over or under and can be seen without opening the mouth. |

| I hope that this is no big deal. I hope some breaders here see your thread and can help you. I wonder if it matters since they are baby teeth?

| Hello And Welcome To Yt! If your baby is a pet only, then theirs no need to worry. Just keep an eye pn retained baby teeth in the future. It's common in toy breeds.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | My cocker Tessa has a bad underbite...(back teeth don't meet the top teeth) and when she was a baby I had to hand feed her because she couldn't pick up the food .....now she's just spoiled and I STILL hand feed her at 10. It never corrected itself. Don't know if this will help but in most cases - it's nothing serious. |

| Wosie has an overbite I don't think it is quite that big, but her top teeth do protrude out over her bottom teeth, and her tongue hangs out of the little hole quite a lot. I don't anticipate it ever correcting, and her tongue is so cute, I am not sure I want it to correct! LOL Good luck with your baby. I do hear that these bite issues are genetic, so I am hoping breeding was not in your plan.

| thanx everyone for replying.. regrettably, i've already returned the little boy pup. It was heart-wrenching.. i don't even feel human after doing that.. I don't think someone like me deserves a pet after this experience. I'm disappointed that I couldn't handle the situation. Aside from the severe overbite, he is everything anyone could want in a dog.. his overbite shouldn't even an issue. I just feel like i'm not financially established enough to handle anything major at this moment. I'm still a college student and money is an issue. I hope that he will be taken care of like the little prince that he is.. one of the most depressing experience thus far in my life. thanx again to everyone for replying. |

| Hello! I also have a 8 week old yorkie, "Marley", who has the same thing. Our vet said that they could possibly put some kind of retainer on him to correct this in a few months but he has to be nutured in order for them to do so. Has anyone else encountered the same problem? Thanks for the feedback! |
