| What helps upset stomach? Hey all. I haven't started a thread in like forever, but -- Having trouble finding the answer using search. Bodhi got some crunchy ground cover at the park today. Was mixed in with the grass. He's definitely not feeling well, has been laying around with short bursts of oomph. He did a normal #2 as soon as we got in. A #1 about an hour later. He didn't want to drink any water an hour ago. Any ideas what would sooth Bodhi's poor little 4 month old tummy? Thanks so much! ~Bodhi'sMom Last edited by Bodhi'sMom; 03-30-2005 at 09:00 PM. |

| I swear by pepto bismol (about 1/4 tsp.) and chicked and rice for a meal . be sure not to add any salt or butter.

| Bodhi's All Better! Thank you both for responding! Sorry about my delayed response. I did a Google and chicken and rice as a remedy prevailed. Cairos Mom, Pepto Bismol seemed to be used in instances of diarrhea. Is that when you use it? And thanks for a measure. I agree - plain rice is best. I steamed some rice, which Bodhi LOVED! Then he finished the rest of his Royal Canin. An immediate #2, then back to his energetic shenanigans. Hubby and I were so relieved. I hope he doesn't feign illness just to get rice as that's the only time he's gotten "human" food. You know how they can be: One day steamed rice, the next day Unagi Maki! Yorkie_GirL, I'll ask the vet about the reglan, pepcid & flagyl. I'd like to know what to keep in the Bodhi First Aid kit. |

| Simon has a very sensitive tummy and when he isn't feeling very well (throwing up/gagging) I give him pepcid as recommended by 2 vets. It works so well for him. |

You can probably call your vet and request a bottle i get mine for about 10.00 hope this helps, i know its a lil late! |

| Immodium AD, bifidus (doctor dopholis from health food store) and Nutracal: If you get the chewable tablets and crush them, open the capsule of the intestinal flora, and mix both with a small ammount of the Nutracal. Put in mouth and repeat as needed until stool is firm again. This is what I do for all of my animals, including the yorkie, a St. Bernard, goats, sheep, and rabbits. Works well. Pepto shouldn't be used on dogs in my opinion- Bodhi's mom- Your vet should not give flagyl to a dog for stomach problems- this is a very strong, very body disturbing med, which is used for human sexually transmitted diseases. Check out the Merck Index before giving a human med to an animal if you want to know what it does. Flagyl's side effects: More common side effects may include: Abdominal cramps, constipation, diarrhea, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, upset stomach, vomiting Less common side effects may include: Blood disorders, confusion, dark urine, decreased sex drive, depression, difficulty sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth (or vagina or vulva), fever, flushing, furry tongue, hives, inability to hold urine, increased production of pale urine, inflamed mouth or tongue, inflammation of the rectum, irritability, lack of muscle coordination, metallic taste, occasional joint pain, pain during sexual intercourse, painful or difficult urination, pelvic pressure, rash, stuffy nose, vertigo, weakness, yeast infection (candida) in vagina Best, deborah |

| We have 3 dogs -7 lb yorkie, 12 pound malti-poo and 18 pound miniature poodle. When any of them have an upset stomach I put a little ginger between two pieces of cheese and they are better in about 15 minutes. All us humans use it too, only we take 2 whole capsules. I have a friend who suffered from horrible gas with every meal - got him on 2 ginger capsules with every meal and no more problems. You can buy capsules at any health food store or use the ginger you cook with. If you buy capsules, open one and just give your pup maybe 1/16 teaspoon between something tasty. It is spicy and they won't eat it otherwise. This is so much better than using any man made medicine that has possible side effects. Val |
