Once a Day Lil' Dewey is 8 months old. He wakes in the mornings between 5:30 and 6:00. He will not drink or eat all day long. He will get a drink first thing ever once in awhile. My wife is at home with him all day long. When I get home we take him to the walking track for about 45 min. to an hour. When we get home at around 6:00 he will eat a half cup of food and drink. Then we play and he is typical Yorkie (hyper). He will drink off and on all evening. He also begs for food the rest of the evening. Is this o.k.? It seem to me he should be eating twice a day. What can I do to get him to east in the morning?

I free feed my Yorkies so i've never had to deal with this problem but I do think a whole day up until 6:00pm is too long for a dog to go without food. Think about how you'd feel if you couldn't eat all day. If he doesn't eat in the morning and if you can't come home from work at lunch time to feed him then i would maybe try to hire someone to come in and feed him around noon so he doesn't have to wait until 6pm but that's if your against free feeding during the day.

Thanks for your reply. My wife is home with him all day. She tries to get him to eat during the day and he will not. We feed him Innova puppy which he loves.

My close friend lives with her mom and her mom is home all day with her Yorkie while my friend is at work. Well she free feeds her Yorkie but her Yorkie won't touch her food until my friend gets home from work Maybe your Yorkie is going through some separation anxiety when you go to work.

Yorkie not eating until later! Iam having the same problem with my yorkie he is 6months old. He will not eat until 12Noon or later.Ihave tried giving him dry food mix with moist food .He still wont eat until 12noon or later. I make sure I give him Nutri-Stat in the morning. Now I mix dry and moist and some chicken and now he will eat but not when he wakes up at 6AM.My vet said sometimes a dog will have a upset Tummy in the Morning so Iam giving him 5mg of Pepcid before bedtime.I have noticed that he as more of an appetite after 10minute walks.Try hand feeding him in the morning that may help and give him the Nutri-Stat or Nutrical when he first wakes up. Please keep me posted on your progress. If you have any new Ideas please post or PM me Thanks Sondra

A dog may wake up with a little tummy ache, just like a human may wake up with a tummy ache, doesn't mean he'll wake up with a tummy ache every day. IMO I would not be giving my Yorkie Pepcid every day. I would talk to your vet about that.

Lil' dewey woke up at 6:00 this morning as usual. I gave him the new Innova food along with a tea spoon of Innova canned food. He ate every bit of it. This is the first time he has eaten in the morning in about 3 months. If we can keep this going the wife and I will be very happy.
