| about treats... Since Layla has a food allergy and we're trying to isolate it so we know for sure what it is, her vet has given me the canned version of her hypoallergenic food to bake and use as treats. well I did that tonight and i'm about to break it up into small peices and keep it in a sealed bag, but i'm wondering if they should be refrigerated? Would they spoil like regular soft food if I just kept them out?

| No directions, I probably should have asked the vet but I guess I could always call tomorrow if nobody at YT knows. I did put the bag in the fridge just in case, but I like having some in other rooms like my bedroom if she goes to the bathroom on her pee pad in the middle of the night or early in the morning and I wake up I like to give her a treat. The vet thinks she may have an allergy to chicken or beef or something. Since these were in her old food, and in most treats, he gave me a hypoallergenic food made with duck. If I feed her just this food and absolutely nothing else and she's still itching, he's going to try her on kangaroo!

| I'm not really sure, it may have just been a guess. If it's potato or rice, she will still itch on this new food. I think he'll just try her on different foods with different ingredients until it's better

| It would probably be safer to refrigerate. If the food has a high fat level, the fat will get rancid. I make my own treats -- they last forever, however, they are completely dehydrated and contain almost NO fat. I haven't had any to get stale or go bad, and for the sake of experiment, I have some of the treats that I made over a year ago in a sealed zip lock bag and they look, feel and smell as fresh as the newly made ones. |

| Thanks for the advice! I did end up keeping them in the fridge, and on top of keeping them fresh they're much easier to handle. The insides were still pretty mushy but I fed one to Layla this morning and it wasn't messy at all!

| it is weird since grains are the top causes of allergies...you can always try a carb free food to see if that's it. But the meat source can also cause allergies, actually a dog can start being allergic to anything at anytime... Hope she feels better soon
