| Did your Yorkie have residual baby teeth?? Fagan has retained some of his baby teeth. He's already been Neutered and it wasn't an issue at the time. We don't want to put him under unnecessarily so we are going to wait untill May when he's a year old and have him get a Dental and have the teeth removed then. Does anyone else have any experiences with retained baby teeyh? Should we get them taken care of sooner? I know Yorkies have a reputation for difficuly with teeth so I hate to set him up for trouble. Can you guys help????

| IMO he should be fine until May. I think more Yorkies than not have teeth problems. Seems like the smaller the dog,the worse the problem. |

| My little Chloe has 2 rows of teeth right now but I will probably just get them pulled when she gets spayed. One of them fell out today so I kept it and the tooth fairy is coming to see her tonight. I am going to put the tooth away and keep it!

| Pam, you should be fine waiting until May. Just make sure he has plenty of healthly things to chew on and maybe they will come out on their own.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali has retained everyone of her baby teeth. She has a complete double set. My pom had to have 6 teethe pulled recently and has only 1 on the front bottom. I told Cali maybe we could make dentures for Maya from all her extra teeth.lol. Once she is spayed they will remove them, but Cali is already 7 1/2 months so I don't think they will come out on there own. I am going to wait to get her spayed to see if she has any further issues with her health, so I think waiting on the teeth is ok.

| Peppy had 14 removed. Chattie and Chizzie both lost all of their baby teeth on their own. Well, I did wiggle one of Chizzie's but it did come out by itself.... |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | My oldest Chanel had no problems with retaining teeth and has a gorgeous little set....Cheri got 4 pulled when Spayed.....but I advise you not to wait too long or the baby teeth can throw off the bite |

| My little Jig had a full double set by the time he was about 8 months old. None of them were loose or looked like they were gonna come out on their own. Because he was getting such terrible breath, a possible sign of decay, we had to schedule him for extraction. I would keep a close eye on your little one and watch for any signs of trouble such as decay, infection or bite/malalignment problems. Little dogs are prone to this and the smaller the dog it seems like the higher the incidence. Good Luck, Dawn

| OH MY GOODNESS... one week after i got jackson, he got really sick and had brown gooey foam coming from his mouth and he was really lethargic. i was so mad because i had JUST bought him... but i felt so bad for him. i cant stand seeing my baby sick. so we went to the vet and they said he had 6.... yes SIX... baby teeth that needed to be pulled because they were infected. so, $400 later he was just like new. kinda made me mad since just a week before that i spent $500 on Jackson, and then had to turn around and spend all that money at the vet. but it had to be done! so yes i definatly advise that you keep a close eye on their baby teeth. you dont want them to get infected! xoxo

| Charlie had his two baby canines on both top and bottom and we were told by the vet that they had to come out or it would cause trouble. My husband is a dentist and knew they needed to come out, but because my husband is a dentist it seemed silly to have to have pay someone else to pull our dog's teeth. I put off making an appointment and his two lower baby teeth fell out on their own a while back. When I took him in back in January, the vet told me again that the two uppers had to come out and we should make an appointment as soon as possible. Again, I put it off, and noticed just a couple of weeks ago that one of those teeth that was going to need pulling had fallen out on it's own. I may eventually have that lone tooth pulled, but I bet it will come out by itself before long. He's 18 months old and already neutered, so there's no reason to put him under except that one tooth. Maybe a little more tugging on a rubber ball will help! |

| For some reason, the vet left one of Jig's teeth after extracting the rest of the baby teeth. I think he felt it would come out on it's own. The darn thing just wouldn't come out. It was loose and it really looked nasty. Faint at heart beware: I gave him 2mg of benedryl to keep him calm (recommended by the vet), numbed the area with one of those topical toothache gels put on a q-tip (also O.K.'d with the vet) and used a hemostat (kind of a locking tweezer) to pull the tooth myself. It was very loose and gave way as easily as one of my children's teeth that was stubborn and wouldn't come out on it's own. Jig tolerated it well and didn't bleed but a drop. I'm a nurse felt comfortable doing this. I didn't want to have to put him under again for one tooth. He even ate better after having that tooth out. It must have been bothering him. I'd say if you're husband is a dentist he should be able to help. Dawn
