Hello...First of all, Penny is my Min Pin's name...My name is Eddy, and I don't think Lola is overweight and unhealthy. I know she is happy and healthy. My concern was if this weight was normal for her age? if she would lose weight as she matures etc. Only because I am somewhat new to this breed that's all. I am thinking about changing her diet because it is a better source of nutrition protein etc for her. Pedigree is a premium dog food, but I feel there is better dog food out there. When I finish using the Pedigree, I will change their diet to something more healthy. Vet says she is extremely healthy and agrees with the food change, if I decide to do so. She has also got another deworming, first distempermant, first rabies. Thanks again!

UPDATE!!! I know I was only basic when I wrote about Lola's visit to the vet. But he says she is healthy. He checked her ears, teeth, eyes, genital, and hearbeat today! He said that I have a really happy and healthy yorkie in my hands. He said her growth spurt is normal with this breed and since she is close to six months, that she shouldn't gain more than a pound more. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, and wanted to give you a picture I took today. She went from black and tan to blue and gold, I think. She is turning different colors Thanks!Eddy and Fam

Hello... In response to your thread, I just wanted to say that My Yorkie is 4 months old and she weighs 3 pounds and 15 ounzes. Just about 4 lbs. She eats Royal Canine Puppy 33 and she loves her food!! For about 3 weeks now she has been eating less of the meals, when I used to give her 3 to 4 small meals a day now she is eating 2 meals a day and she seems to have reached a plataeu phase. She went to her vet just 2 days ago and he said that she is growing very wonderfully and she should be reaching her mature size between 4 to 6 months and her gain should not be too much. So I dont think that your puppy is overweight, I really think she is just a healthy baby puppy!!! The food you feed her may be alright, but if you are going to change it to any other healthier type just make the transition smoothly and I am sure she will be fine!!!

Hello. Thanks for the advice. My Vet said very similar things. I am actually not going to change my pups food. My Vet said her diet is fine, and that is the normal weight she should be. I am not over feeding her and she get's plenty of exercise. Just concerned because I am new to this breed. The vet said she might gain another pound but by six months, that she will fill out a little more, but nothing major. So, I am fine with that. I am fine with a healthy and happy pup as she is. Thanks again!!

I am very new at this cute little breed myself... infact I was reading through the posts and I went to the forum where they discuss ear cleaning and in fact people pluck the puppies hair inside the ears after or during their bath... I was very curious about that and I wanted to know if that would hurt her???? I got no replies except for a lady or gentleman asking me why I bathe my puppy every 6 to 7 days... and I have been told by my vet that so far she is doing very well, her weight, her fur, and everything is great!!! Infact she was just done with all of her vaccinations and her shots so the fact that she will no longer be going to the vet for at least another year made them all pretty meloncholic in the office and they gave her a nice puppy toy... I promised that when I go to pick up her heartguard and Frontline I will bring her in for a quick visit!!!

Hello. That is good to hear. I was glad when the vet told me I had a very healthy and happy yorkie in my hands. Makes you feel good, you know? Well, I don't think I need to pluck the hairs in my yorkie's ears and I do not need to shave her butt. She handles her business without any complications ...And I bathe my yorkie once a week. I was told by my vet that this is alright. Bathing too much can cause problems with her coat, and bathing too little will do the same. Once a week or twice every two weeks is what I have been hearing from most to be alright. Thanks again!

Ohhh... and make sure you comb her fur at least once a day!!! Mine can form these crazy knots... Its scary what gets trapped in her fur, especially in the tushy and leg areas. This way you will save yourself the trouble of hurting her while you remove her knots in the future and while you bathe her. I know its sounds like a lot of work but keep her brush nearby and passively do it while your watching tv. This helps keep her coat shiny and soft and free from uninvited little intruders that decide to settle in there....

Hi. Oh of course. I make time to brush all my pups coats atleast for a few minutes everyday. Lola has a nice shiny, curly coat. Brushing removes knots but also spreads oils to different areas, so her coat is consitent in both shine and moisture. So I make sure I do that. I do not bring her to get groomed. I like her natural curly look. Also, she does not have naturally standing ears, but I like that too. Thanks
