| Just Diagnosed with Kidney Disease I have been searching the forums for help with a recent diagnosis of kidney disease. Coco has dropped in weight from 13lbs to 8.5lbs. She has recently come home from a 3 night stay at the bet clinic. I won't go into all the particulars, but my struggle is finding food that she will eat. I am at my witts end. Does anyone have any ideas if what I might try? Hills Science Diet is not that great in my opinion. Coco has always been fed a really high quality if food. We have always tried to keep her healthy and now the bottom has just dropped out. She is 14 and I understand she may not live much longer, and it's really hard to see her like this. She is currently taking enalapril. Any help is appreciated |

| I have tried My Perfect Pet low phosphorus lamb and rice blend and she ate it the first day and now I cam barely get her to eat 1/3 of the portion size. She is drinking less water than normal, but still drinking. A friend of mine's little girl also has kidney disease and she feeds hers Purina Oro Plan Veterinary Diet HA Hydrolyzed. But I am wondering about those ingredients |

| I am so sorry. Renal disease is very difficult. The problem with food is often a matter of how they feel....renal disease does make them nauseous. Ask your vet about an appetite stimulant....Entyce is one I have had good luck with. I personally use Royal Canin prescription diets for my pups who need RX foods. I know the internet folks like to tout ingredients but I don't pay attention to them. I listen to my vet and to the vet nutritionists.. I have in the past, home cooked for renal pups but those food choices are very limited. Anyway, at the end of the day, if I have a really sick pup and cannot get him/her to eat the RX foods, I will give them anything especially the older ones. Sometimes it is more important to just get food in them and forget for a moment what is in it. Reminds me of a friend who got so desperate she actually bought Alpo for one of her yorkies who was sick and not eating. She love it....lol. I asked my friend if she was embarrassed to purchase it. It sounds like she may have PLN (protein losing nephropathy) since she is on Enalapril. If she does have that, perhaps this link will help you regarding food choices. I personally have had good results with Royal Canin Renal Support canned food. http://assets.prod.vetlearn.com.s3.a..._Parker_FN.pdf I wish you the best. It is so hard to watch our pups be so ill.

| I just want to add this: you mentioned that Coco may not be with you long. Knowing that, I think you might want to focus more on making her happy as opposed to feeding what is good for her. I had a little one years ago who loved vanilla yogurt in his final days. Of course, I don't know details and I don't want to encourage you to give her something that isn't good for her. Just making suggestions. I feel awful for you...I have been there and it is terribly frustrating, and sad.
