| Bad bacteria My 11 year old Female Yorkie was diagnosed with Citrobacter Koseri. She is on antibiotics now. Has anyone ever experienced this with your pet? I’m very concerned about this. I fear she will get it back after off the meds. I have no idea where she got it or what she could have gotten it from. I can’t seem to find much info regarding this bacteria. I appreciate any feedback. Thank You. |

| You didn't say....is it a urinary track infecion, respiratory?, skin? I am not familiar with this bacteria but there are so many. I am assuming, since they know the bacteria, she had a c & s done and she is on the appropriate antibiotic. I think the best you can do is make sure she takes ALL of her meds on time and for the length of time the vet suggests. Yes, some infections don't clear and/or return but honestly no one has a crystal ball. Probably best to just focus on getting this infection cleared. I have found that the things I worry about the most usually don't happen! As to information about the bacteria, you could ask your vet for information but I don't know how that will help you. I personally would be more concerned about info on the antibiotic and possible side effects. Always good to know just in case something pops up. Also, no sense trying to figure out where she got it. Waste of time and energy. My advice is to focus on her being well today! Good luck and please keep us posted.

| Yes, A urinary tract infection. She was peeing blood. Vet said infection was aggressive, so sample was sent out for culture and it came back as Citrobacter Koseri. She was put on Antibiotic for seven days and then extended another seven days. Two days after last pill I need to take in another urine sample. She’s doing well but I’m a worrier so just wanted more info on this bacteria. I will ask more questions next time I talk with her vet. Thank You! |
