| I am going through this right now. My dog is 12 1/2. His dad had a collapsing trachea that started when he was pretty young - Sam just started having issues recently. I’m not sure what to do yet - he will see the vet later this week for his luxating patella. Makes me nervous - I’ve had him since the minute he was born. I hate that he’s getting older - time has flown by very fast. |

| All of my yorkies have had it. Hydrocodone is generally the first medication to try. There is another medication but I can’t think of it off the top of my head.

| I have had a few yorkies with varying degrees of CT. There are quite a few links here on YT about it if you search. If you need help with that, send me a message. Happy to help. I just posted some links for someone else. Perhaps these might help: https://chihuahuaguide.com/chihuahua...apsed-trachea/ https://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/di...d-trachea.html https://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/si...s-trachea.html __________________

| Didn't know that, we just got some the other day from the Vet. Seems like the price was up though.

| I am honestly surprised as no one here has been able to get it for a while. Last I checked was about 2 weeks ago...maybe it is back in stock now

| I try to use it very sparingly because it kinda knocks Penny out but when its rain like humid she has a rough day.

| Torbutrol is one that I have used in the past. It also makes them "goofy" but it does help with coughing due to CT.

| When does CT start? I mean how old are they when it starts? My new Yorkie, Spanky Tu, is 4 months old today, and he coughs hard like is gagging. My old Yorkie, Spanky One, was twelve and died last December of a metastatic splenic tumor. He coughed just like this, but I didn't know what it was. The vet said he was just choked on something, and not to pull too hard on his leash (I used a halter). Needless to say, I don't use her anymore. I guess I could Google, but I would rather hear from someone with Yorkies. Thanks! |

| My late puppy's trachea began collapsing at 15 years of age although she had coughing issues off and on her whole life. On xray it showed enlarged heart and liver which the vet said he thought was putting pressure on her trachea and likely ultimately led to the collapsing. Maybe you should get an xray of heart and liver to look for signs of enlargement. If that is what's happening and you catch it early enough, your pup can be put on ACE inhibitor and Lasix to help reduce swelling and stress on the heart... slow the process down. Just a suggestion... hope everything works out okay. |
