coat question my yorkie is now 6 months old he has been breaking coat for a few months now.his coat was pretty long and seemed to be looking shabby and cottony to the touch. i had his his coat trimmed up shorter to get him down to the blue color coat. and now his coat feels very soft and siky.what i am wondering is will his coat now grow in nice and silky or will it change back to that whooly fuzzy coat? and could it be somthing i did to make the coat that way i washed him 2 times a week with oatmeal and creme conditioner and blew him dry i brush him everyday while dry.

Only bathe him once a week. You can dry out their skin which can lead to other problems.

I have no clue what was wrong with my puppy's coat - but I cut it off as soon as possible. His puppy coat was black/tan, oily, thin, matted, and totally impossible to comb. A weekly bath did nothing to help this. (I was ready to completely shave him!) This puppy hair was was cut off before he was 3 months old. The hair following this terrible coat is silver/tan, not oily, straight/a little wavy, much thicker, easy to comb, and never matts. It is totally different hair. And, I need to bath him much less often. So - there's hope! Carol Jean

I have to admit that I had Millie's baby coat cut off too, because it was easy to mat, a pain to brush and was starting to get real dry on the ends. She had a cotton coat. After I cut it, her coat is silkier to the touch, does not mat as easily and is much easier to brush. But she still is a cotton coat. She still has that cottony fluffiness about her when her hair gets longer. Her coat only "feels" silky to the touch, because all the dry ends are cut of and its the real new hair that I am touching. Once a cotton coat always a cotton coat, but cutting it did make it much more managable and combable. And I love to feel her and touch her because the new hair is so soft and silky.
