YT 2000 Club Member | Which would you suggest and why? Maggie Mae, my 8 yr old yorkie, recently was dx’d with pancreatitis and ‘sluggish’ gallbladder. Internal Dr put her on meds, but also after things settled down some we could start her on canned food. 1. Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat. 2. Hills Low Fat. 3. Science Diet. All three are prescription only. Has anyone tried any of these for this diagnoses successfully? I appreciate any input. Thank you in advance! ..... Joyce

| I love Royal Canin. They are an amazing company and their prescription foods are supposed to be the most palatable. Hope she starts feeling better.

YT 2000 Club Member | Thank you. We have started feeding her several small feedings a day of the Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat Canned and so far she has been eating it fairly well.

| Also -- sorry you are in the club of pancreatitis and sluggish gallbladder. Jackson got a similar diagnosis in 2018. He was put on RC low fat for pancreatitis but then ended up getting diarrhea for months (he was only getting RC GI food and treats). It was a whole ordeal and test after test. Anyway the food didn't work for him (he was always starving on it, and then clearly not absorbing it since he had non stop diarrhea for 2 months). With that said, it works GREAT for many pancreatitis pups and I whole heartedly trust RC. We use a different RX kibble of theirs now (Selected Protein PW Moderate Calorie) it's a fish and potato based food and we use Weruva canned food (Cirque de le Mer is very low fat -- under 10% on a dry matter basis). Dry matter basis is something to keep in mind with pancreatitis pups too I have learned. Even if the back of a can says "3% fat", once you account for the moisture, you may have a food that is 20% fat and way too high. Here is the calculator I like to use: https://www.pawdiet.com/articles/dry...-for-pet-food/

He was put on metronidazole, Cerenia anti nausea, given subq fluids, and originally put on RC GI low fat. But like I said, it ended up not working for us. And we settled on Royal Canin PW selective protein moderate calorie kibble (it's 7.5% fat) and then Weruva tuna canned. He does better on fish/potato/grainfree because he also has other sensitivities besides the pancreatitis (possible IBD). We keep an insanely close eye on his diet now. He did just recently have a minor flare up which consisted of a slightly elevated CPL (that is the specific test for pancreatitis they do). Settled it with just feeding the tuna canned food (dry was too tough on his tummy, I think) and some metronidazole. He was waking up with nausea etc. We also give Pepcid A/C as needed.
