| Hi, My three year old Yorkie has had to have her anal glands expressed every few months since she was about a year old. However, the time between their filling keeps shortening. It was 1 1/2 months, then every month, but last week we took her after only two weeks because she was scooting and whimpering. Her stools remain fine through it all. The vet had suggested Glandex a few months ago which we have faithfully given her for about six months. But....they fill more and more quickly. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has suggestions. Love our little princess and don’t want her in pain. Thanks. Gew |

| We don't have this issue, from time to time (maybe once in few weeks) Mike has this extra smelly poop and as I understand that's the glands expressing itself. Have you tried changing her food? Can it be that the food she's eating lacks enough fiber? I give Mike frozen green beans and frozen carrots as treats regularly to bulk up his poop. Hope you will find a solution so your girl is not in discomfort!! |

| My vet said more fiber like Metamucil when Penny is having those issues.

| Sometimes they put them on special diets for those issues.

| My vet recommends that anal glands not be expressed unless absolutely necessary and it should be done by a health care professional. If done incorrectly the glands are easily damaged causing ongoing issues. With that said, I have always followed this advice and have never ever had issues with any dog ever. Sometimes the glands have to be surgically removed. |

| I have one who was having issues. The vet suggested using shredded wheat. I get the tiny ones and crumble 3 in each of his meals. It is helping a lot!
