| Twisted nail One of Mike's backfoot nails has grown sideways It's was not broken, didn't bleed or crack, didn't cause any pain or limping because he is with me all the time.. I don't understand how it happened. We noticed it a few months ago and I blame myself for neglecting it, but we had a lot going on. He is FINALLY getting around (a little bit) to let me trim and file him nails mm by mm. So what can we do to turn the twisted one back? Even though it doesn't cause discomfort I guess it's not good. |

| I have to assume the nail grew very long and has turned sideways , the only thing you can do is continue as you are, trim mm by mm weekly but this will take a long time to get the nail to where it should be, be care not to cut the quick. With their black nails it's very hard to see it. You can bring him to your vet, a tech will cut the nail back or try a groomer. It would be a one shot deal, just to quickly shorten that nail then you can continue to maintain it.

| Thank you for advice. I will have to continue with cutting then.. he is very bad with nail trimming, we stopped doing it at the vet because he hates being restrained and they accidentally quicked 2 nails last time we went because he was so wiggly and angry((( So do you think it can go back to normal in time? |

| Yes, it will. Several years ago my now passed senior girl had 2 nails that grew very long and leaned to the side,I took her every week to the groomer to cut just the tips, it took a while but her nails became normal length again. I stopped cutting yorkie nails, I use to trim my girls every 3 weeks, just a tiny bit off the tips until one time I got the quick, I never saw so much blood, while holding my pup with a cloth on her paw I frantically found the cornstarch to stop the bleeding. That was it for cutting yorkie nails, it's hard to see where the quick ends.

| Yes, I saw how much his nail was bleeding at the vet last time(( I'm terrified as well, but I did cut all of them a few days ago for the first time with more of less success and less panic on his side. Kept the cornstarch on hand but luckily didn't need it. Ordered a battery powered grinder today, I'm hoping once they get to a normal length I can keep it up with filing once a week to keep them short. Oh this little dude get more "beauty" care than an average human |

| Most groomers in my area use the Dremel grinder after they cut the nails to smooth the roughness off, however Cody won't let them use it on him, his nails are lethal weapons after a grooming. We take better care of our babies then we do of ourselves lol. Mike is young and easy to train to get use to his paws being handled and nails clipped.
