| Le Femme Nikita's 12wk wellness check I took Niki to the vet this morning for her 12 week wellness check up. She did great. She weighed in at 2.25lbs and that is up from the 1.6 she was at 8 weeks according to the breeder weight chart. The vet said she is in excellent health, gave her her third puppy shot(no lepto, he refuses to give it) and will see us again in 3 weeks. Our vet knows Yorkies well as he owns 2 and his daughters own 3. He checked her all over and was very pleased with her bone structure. He has spent the last 5yrs specializing in small dog breeds, with Yorkies, Shih tzsus and Maltese. He said she is charting to be between 4.5lbs - 5lbs when full grown. She is now sleeping in her bed.

| Nothing better then a clean bill of health. Great that your vet is familiar with small breeds. BTW that's some bed for a wee lil gal lol.

lot of time researching and learning new techniques for small breeds. He says a lot of Vets treat all dogs the same but believes that there should be different treatments for different size dogs. We are very pleased with him. That bed was supposed to be a small, maybe it is, but she loves it and has already made sure it is HERS and that she is now the queen of the castle!!

Our vet is the same way. She does not believe in the "one size fits all" solution.

| Clean bill of health means super duper hyper energetic puppy you will be chasing after constantly . Duchess is 7yrs old and still a ball of energy. Congrats on the clean bill of health. |

Oh lord help me.... HYPER!!! That's her!! I have been chasing after her constantly since we brought her home. I must say though she is taking to her XerPen and crate pretty well and has already learned a couple of basic commands. She is one smart pup.

| Great news! She is in great hands of loving family as well as a vet who specialises in small breeds. It's is good to have someone with experience to help guide you through her growth stages and needs. Yay to healthy puppy By the way, I was reading an article a few days ago about yorkie growth stages, and it said something about 'after month 6 expected you puppy to be at his full hyper energetic stage" as well as something about showing stubborn character and independent personality... and I was like.. WAIT, so that was not HYPER yet and not STUBBORN yet?? They sure do run the show as they please |

larger breeds decided to take on a partner who specializes in small breeds. They also have a Vet who does farm animals. Oh lordy, more HYPER and STUBBORN? Well if nothing else I am going to lose weight chasing her. But I have to admit she is a lot of fun and has tremendous character.

| Please talk a bit on the no Lepto vaccine stance of your vet. I'd like to understand the reason better. There is a lot of conflicting information on Lepto available in the Internet. I've found arguments both for and against, and at least one source indicated that it was a higher risk disease for a Yorkie than previously thought. But it wasn't a recent article. |

| Our vet let us opt out of Lepto, but the dr. who owns the practice came into the room to try and convince us that we needed to vaccinate our boys...even after I explained that they are inside dogs and we did not feel that the benefit outweighed the risk(s). The next time we were in the office, there was a sign posted stating that all puppies, regardless of breed, must be vaccinated for lepto during their round of puppy shots. Luckily, our wonderful vet is buying the practice. He is always willing to work with us when we have concerns, and does not take a "one size only " approach to our three very different little dogs!

| Our vet does not administer Lepto unless there is a need. Smaller dogs have a higher risk of anaphylactic reactions to the vaccine. You also need semi-annual boosters as the vaccine does not build a permanent immunity. The area we live in has no reported outbreaks of Lepto and therefore we decided based on his recommendation and my research which is mainly internet related to forego the vaccine at this time.
