| ticks and hiking Since retiring, I have discovered a new hobby that is slowly turning into a passion......hiking. I absolutely love it. I've always like hiking and would go for little short hikes every now and then. Now that I have the time, I find that I am hiking several times a week and on a mission to hike all of the trails in my state.....Delaware. Not all at once of course but, over the next few years. Gotta pace myself as retirement will hopefully be pretty long and I don't want to do everything in the first few years..... It's not a lot of trails however we border Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I plan on hitting those as well. Of course Duchess loves to hike too. Before I go hiking I been using Deep Woods on myself which has been working for me so far in keeping the ticks and bugs away. Duchess is on Frontline Plus but it doesn't appear to be stopping the ticks or does it? After each hike I checked her thoroughly before coming into the house as I also have a cat who is on revolution. She always have several ticks on her. Is there something I can use to prevent the ticks from jumping on her or do they just jump on her and Frontline Plus eventually kills them. If not, what can I use to prevent ticks from jumping on my baby. She loves hiking and a lot of times I hike alone and she is my only company. She is like a kid in the candy store.......she gets so excited when we go on our hikes. There are so many woodland creatures that she would love to get her paws on if she wasn't leashed. Deer jumping out of no where in front of us, frogs all along the trail, you name it, she tries to chase it. So not taking her hiking with me would most certainly not be as enjoyable but I also don't want to risk her getting lyme disease as well by taking her. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would love it if there are any natural remedies. Thanks Last edited by yavenay; 06-20-2018 at 01:11 PM. |

| Thanks, I just did some research and I found out that Frontline Plus takes a day or two start killing the ticks. Are there anything I can put on here before we go hiking that will actually repel them? probably not I noticed that some trails I go on, she doesn't get any ticks but then others, she will get a few......I also notice that the ticks aren't actually on her but on her fur. According to frontline, that mean's it's doing the job????? I've never had to use the tweezers. So far I've just been able to pluck them from her fur. I guess that is a good thing. I don't think they are sucking her blood as they are not attached to her skin when I see them. I've been checking her body and have not felt any lumps and I ran the flea comb through her and that has come up clean. My cat seems okay too. So maybe the frontline is actually working. |

| There are some sprays that could aid in conjunction with something like Frontline or Advantix. Like this: https://www.chewy.com/vetriscience-vetri-repel/dp/54874 Hiking is so much fun! I'm glad you guys get to enjoy it together. Jackson LOVES it too.

YT 500 Club Member | I absolutely hate Fronline or any poison they promote for fleas & tics. Just this season I bought Earth Animal flea & tic collar. It is all natural with plant essential oils. I have researched the oils in it and all are safe for dogs, not sure about cats. I also use a good quality rose geranium oil. I put just a drop on the collar, I just want a little more protection. We have tons of tics here too just going for short walks. So far I have found on one tic and it was dead. Every time we come inside, weather for out side potty or a walk, we check him real good. So far so good. He has worn the collar for about a month. It says it lasts 3 months. It costs me $13.00, so I will buy another before the 3 months are up. I too used frontline, but it’s so bad for our babies. That stuff is absorbed into the kidneys, livers. I suggest you research other products. Good luck and have a great retirement.
