| Dogs are lactose intolerant so I’m not a big fan of giving yogurt. You can find coconut oil at the grocery store. I would only give a small spoon full.

| From PetMD, "Healthy Foods Checklist: Yogurt for Dogs," in part (emphasis added) Plain, low or non-fat yogurt provides probiotic benefits and serves as an excellent source of calcium for our canine companions. Adding a small spoonful of yogurt to your dog’s regular kibble at mealtime can provide digestive benefits and even help your dog stay full longer...Before making yogurt a regular part of your dog’s diet, consult your veterinarian to ensure proper serving suggestions...Some dogs have a harder time digesting dairy products, so keep an eye out for any signs of lactose intolerance. These may include diarrhea, gas, and vomiting. If your dog displays any of these symptoms following yogurt consumption, follow up with your veterinarian. For more information about lactose and dogs, see PetMD, "Can Dogs Drink Milk?" |

| I would be careful with sugar substitutes with dogs.

| Although Carbmaster yogurt doesn't contain xylitol, which would be lethal to dogs, the ingredients don't inspire much confidence: "water, milk protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, cream, skim milk, modified corn starch, glycerine, natural and artificial flavor, salt, gelatin, tricalcium phosphate, malic acid, phosphoric acid, pectin, agar, cultured dextrose, sodium citrate, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, annatto and turmeric extract (for color), vitamin a palmitate, vitamin d3, and active cultures with l acidophilus and b.bifidum." (from https://www.fooducate.com/app#!page=...2-FEFD45A4D471). If I were feeding yogurt (and I don't), I'd feed unsweetened plain low fat yogurt with no added ingredients. If it's properly fermented, the lactose is converted to lactic acid and would no longer affect a lactose intolerant dog.

| I did a little more reading. Store bought yogurt isn't fully fermented, so it still has a little lactose in it, but it has much less lactose than milk. Greek yogurt, which has the liquid drained from it, has even less lactose than regular yogurt. So I guess the best yogurt for a dog would be plain lowfat or nonfat Greek yogurt.

| About the coconut oil, here's a product on chewy.com: https://www.chewy.com/zesty-paws-org...rgin/dp/156814 The feeding instructions are 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of your dog's weight per day, starting off with 1/4 of the daily amount until your dog is used to it. That said, it's nothing that I would ever feed Bella unless there was a medical reason to do so.

| Never fed coconut oil to my sweetie, but see Aly Semigran, "Coconut Oil for Dogs: Understanding the Benefits and Risks," n.d., PetMD for claims, in part *“Coconut oil can increase energy levels, improve skin and coat, improve digestion, and reduce allergic reactions,”Risks are mentioned, including possible allergic reactions, wrong dosage, problems with pancreatitis-prone pups, may possibly raise "bad cholesterol."
