| Pancreatitis question My boy has pancreatitis and has been doing good on low fat prescription of Royal Canin. I have really stuck to the diet but he has lost weight and I was wondering if I can give him anything else to help gain some weight back. |

| At the yorkie meet up i went to last weekend there was a dog there who just experienced this. The owner had been feeding chicken and rice to supplement the RX Royal Canin.

| When Cali went on the Royal Canin for her pancreatitis she lost weight too. It look me a while to realize it is low calorie, and I needed to give her more I was feeding her before. Once I realized that we got her weight back up to where it needed to be.

| Pancreatitis So what else did you feed her besides RC low fat? Mine has been a pickie eater. Finally got him eating the RC. I use to feed Fromm and add chicken. I’ve been happy to get him on a food that he eats without adding anything. Hate to get him back on chicken because afraid he will quit the RC |

| I make dehydrated chicken so add and also use the Hill ID kibbles at times to mix it up. I try to present the Hills kibbles kind of a treat! I bought a cheap hydrator and make almost a chicken powder (that she can’t pick out) and she loves it. But i also increased the amount I was feeding her due to the low calorie count. I love in the Louisville area, are you near there?

| There is really no complicated recipe. My email is drjkr@me.com. If you want to email me I will send you the pictures of the packages of chicks I use and how I grind them up after I dehydrate them. I bought a cheap hydrator on amazon and have one of those small ninja bullet processors. I do stay strictly to the pancreatitis diet. Done want another flare.

| P Sorry your boy has that diagnosis, but great that you have it under control with the P diet. I agree with other posters that adding a bit of lean boiled chicken breast might help. As another poster said, the ID food is very low calorie and my dog who is on the Prescription Hills ID Low Fat kibble is always hungry. So I just feed him more of the kibble, at more frequent intervals, and he maintains weight. I really think the food is not very satisfying and they need more of it. Praying the diet keeps your boy well. |

| I supplement with boiled chicken breast that I freeze in portions. I only give 4 grams a meal x 4 meals a day. I also put some fruit/vege juice with no pulp in his food for extra nutrition. I do give him some RC low fat prescription kibble as treats otherwise he mainly eats canned RC low fat.

| I don't have any experience with pancreatitis, but if you are feeding lean chicken breasts, you can make what I call "chicken goo" - a little goes a long way. The recipe is simple. Boil a boneless skinless chicken breast until thorough cooked. Cool the broth so that you can scoop off any fat. Reduce the liquid by simmering until only a small amount is left. Chop cooked breast then whizz in a blender until it is a goo. Can be portioned and frozen. You can add a bit of water to a small amount of goo and disk it in the refrigerator overnight. Warm in microwave. |

| Thanks for the replies. My boy is doing good now. He’s on prescription Royal Canin low fat dry and canned. He wouldn’t eat the Hill’s ID. I been boiling chicken breast till done and putting in dehydrator. One of the other members here recommended. So far it’s working and he is back to hisself. I also dehydrated sweet potatoes for treats which he loves. Really being careful what he eats. |
